College and Transport Information
From 23 May until 27 July the following work will be undertaken on the Level Crossing Removal project :
- Digging the rail trenches
- Completing utility relocations and piling works
- Building the new Mentone and Cheltenham stations
- Building the Park, Charman and Balcombe Road bridges
- Rebuilding the rail line
- Signalling and overheads works
- Upgrading substations in Mentone and Cheltenham.
Major Road Closures
Balcombe Road in Mentone will be closed between Woolworths and Swanston Street from 1.00am on Thursday 14 May until 23 June 2020.
Park Road in Cheltenham will be closed between Hall Street and Churchill Avenue from 11.30pm on Saturday 23 May until Monday 8 June 2020.
Charman Road in Cheltenham will be closed between Station Road and Blagdon Street from 11.30pm on Saturday 23 May until Thursday 11 June 2020.
Como Parade East changed to one-way traffic towards Warrigal Road until late July, with street parking temporarily removed.
Local access only to Churchill Avenue, Cheltenham from 23 May, while major works take place.
Stanley Avenue, Cheltenham closed to through traffic from Thursday 19 March until mid 2020
There will be reduced street parking on Edward Street, Cheltenham between Booker and Hoffman streets until early May. Detours and traffic management in place to keep you moving safely through the area.
Shops are open as usual and access to homes, schools and businesses will be maintained.
Rail Closures
Buses will replace trains on the Frankston line between:
Moorabbin and Mordialloc from 10.00pm Saturday 23 May until the last train on Sunday 26 July 2020.
When trains return on Monday 27 July, they will still run express through Cheltenham and Mentone while finishing works continue at the two new stations.
Mentone Station will open on Monday 3 August, and Cheltenham Station on Monday 17 August.
Train replacement buses will be running from the following locations in Mentone:
Towards Frankston: outside Mentone Bowls Club on Balcombe Road
Towards city: outside the Caltex service station on Balcombe Road
Pedestrian Access
No pedestrian access across the Balcombe Road, Mentone level crossing from Thursday 14 May to Wednesday 27 May. Pedestrians can detour via the Rogers Street level crossing for a free pedestrian shuttle bus
A temporary pedestrian path will be in place across the new deck over the rail line next to Balcombe Road from Thursday 28 May to Monday 22 June. Pedestrians can also access the free pedestrian shuttle bus.
Pedestrian access on Balcombe Road, Mentone will open on Tuesday 23 June.
