Federation University Update

Providing new opportunities for people impacted by the pandemic

Campus: All campuses

Regional Victorians will have the opportunity to upskill and re-train during the COVID-19 pandemic through a variety of short courses in priority areas identified by the Federal Government as part of its higher education relief package.

Federation University Australia has  launched 11 new short courses in: health, education, IT, engineering and environmental studies.

The six-month online programs have been developed to train people in sectors where there is a strong demand for skilled workers. The Federal Government is subsidising the course fees to help people re-train and find new jobs as part of its response to the pandemic, with fees discounted by around 60 per cent.

All of Federation’s new short courses also lead into university degrees if people want to continue studying. The courses include:

Undergraduate certificates in:

o    Vocational Education & Training

o    Sport, Physical & Outdoor Education

o    Principles of Nutrition and Health Promotion

o    Principles of Conservation and Sustainability

o    Information Technology (Project Management)

o    Information Technology

o    Education Studies

o    Biomedical Science

Graduate certificates in:

o    Health (Workplace Health & Safety)

o    Reliability Engineering

o    Maintenance Management

The new short courses will begin in second semester in July.

Quotes attributable to Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Helen Bartlett

“We know this is a very challenging time for thousands of people who have lost work as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“These short courses provide people with an opportunity to quickly boost their skills or train in a new area where there are jobs and a demand for skilled workers.”
