Year 7 Camp

On Wednesday March 29, 150 Year 7 students and 15 teachers braved the rain and headed up to Alexandra Adventure Park. Despite the wet start, students were asked to challenge themselves during the camp and support each other to achieve something they had never been able to before.

Over the course of the next three days, every student went above and beyond in achieving this goal – not only for themselves, but for those around them. Working as a team, each activity group overcame challenges such as the high ropes course, the leap of faith, the flying fox, rock climbing and numerous water activities such as raft building and canoeing. On the first evening, students and teachers bonded over trivia and games night; despite quizmaster Ms Voigt throwing lots of curveballs, there were many happy prize-winners throughout the night! With the weather improving on Thursday night, students were able to sit out under the stars and toast some marshmallows by a fire – whilst also enjoy their choice of School of Rock and the Thursday night AFL blockbuster.

As teachers, we were blown away with the manner in which every Year 7 student handled the challenges thrown at them throughout the camp. To receive feedback from the camp staff that the rooms had been left neater than ever before and that students had gone out of their way to thank them for their camp experience underlines the respect, commitment and safety that is on display throughout our Year 7 cohort. I am so proud of each and every one of you and cannot wait to see this standard maintained throughout 2023 and beyond!

One of the best experiences of the year, every child’s favorite time to be at school. Camp! It was nerve-wracking at the start but later on it was an exciting adventure. The bus ride was fun, and everyone was excited about the three upcoming days. We made it to camp with a good but rainy start and had our lunch.

The first activity was an adventurous rock-climbing activity. I was two steps away from reaching the top but just couldn’t get my finger there. The rest of the day was full of humor and excitement. One of the best parts was getting together with my friends at the agora where we had breakfast, lunch and dinner. My activity group leader was Miss Allport, she would always encourage us to have a go at the activities and would be supportive of us. A huge hats-off and appreciation to Miss Allport for her hard work. I will never forget the great times I had spent in my cabin with my friends, laughing about what happened during their activities and things that happen out of school. Also helping each other out while setting up our beds and getting our accessories for the day.

Overall, my opinion on camp was amazing and I had a fantastic time. I would like to give a big shout out to all the teachers that contributed towards camp!

Camp was a fun time for everyone, both students and teachers. The morning of camp, and the bus ride there was full of excitement and laughter. After a long bus ride there we had finally arrived. As soon as we hopped out of the bus, we went straight to the agora to eat our lunch. Once we had finished eating, we all talked to each other and played a bit of ping pong and foosball. We then got split up into our cabin rooms and unpacked our bags. After a bit, we went off to our first activity with our teachers.

My teacher was Ms Noble and she encouraged us to have a go at each and every activity – and everyone in my group was so supportive of one another. A big highlight for me would be the food and the canoeing. The food at the camp was delicious and the canoeing was very fun. The canoeing was a very loud activity as everyone was screaming with enjoyment and also because we were all about to tip – but it was incredibly fun.

A challenge that I overcame was the rock climbing. Even though it seemed high, I gave it a go and made it three quarters of the way up – overcoming my fear of heights. I would like to thank all the teachers that came to camp with us, as they supported and encouraged us throughout the entire camp!

Camp was a great time for all students. It was a fun and enjoyable time, with some activities we did being the leap of faith and high ropes course. The food was great, as we had chicken and potatoes then had chocolate mousse for dessert. An activity that was challenging was the leap of faith, because I was the first one in my activity group to do it. Others were able to do this activity with the encouragement of Mr Hunter, who was a wonderful person to have supporting us. Being at camp had lots of ups and no downs – we were a great bunch of students that made all the teachers’ jobs easier.

Thank you to all the teachers because if you weren’t there we wouldn’t have had camp at all – so thank you! Thank you also to the camp staff, as this was a school experience that we will never forget!
