Technology Use Agreement

As part of our Annual General Permissions at the start of the year parents were asked to go through the Student Technology Use Agreement with their children before commiting to it on their behalf.

It is extremely important that the students understand the expectations contained in the agreement, as these are the standards to which they will be accountable and these are the measures that keep our students safe when utilising our learning technologies at school.

Please take ten minutes to go over the points below with your children again and have a discussion about what they mean and why they are important.

Please also remind your children that emails should not be sent to anyone form their school accounts without the permission from their teacher. This includes friends and family. Students should not be sending emails to parents during class time unless for a specific purpose as directed by their teacher. It is also very important that students do not use their school email accounts to sign up to any other programs or to create other accounts.

  • When using a device either in your classroom or in another room, you must not copy delete or move any files or information that do not belong to you.
  • Use all technology equipment with care and only when instructed by a teacher. Report any problems to the teacher. Do not alter settings on school devices or accounts without express teacher permission.
  • Always use respectful and appropriate language in your online communication.
  • Never log onto any device as another person, use another student’s internet account or pretend to be someone else in an email or any electronic message.
  • Emails from an unknown source or without a subject are not to be opened and the teacher is to be notified of this. Never include any personal information in an email and never send photos of yourself or of classmates. Do not send any emails without permission from a teacher (unless communicating with a teacher).
  • Use the internet for educational purposes only. If you do happen to log on to a site or receive an email that you know is not appropriate, turn off the screen and tell the teacher immediately.
  • Students may not access chat rooms, unless under strict supervision by a teacher for specific educational purposes such as communicating with students from another school.
  • When using the internet, students will be aware of and abide by the copyright laws.  These will be addressed by classroom teachers.

(REPEAT) Monitoring Our Children's Media Consumption - Common Sense Media

It can be a real challenge working out what is appropriate for our kids to be viewing and interacting with in the vast media landscape they are now exposed to.

From television and movie streaming services, youtube videos, computer games to social media platforms, there is just so much to keep track of.

One resource that is very helpful is Common Sense Media. This is a website that has great advice for parents on the appropriateness of all forms of media. You can seach for particular programs, games and platforms to find detailed reviews of all aspects of the content as well as age recomendations.

There is also an excellent section dedicated specifically to social media which details all of the major platforms.
