From the Principal

NAPLAN 2023
NAPLAN is an annual National Literacy and Numeracy assessment sat by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake. This year NAPLAN testing will commence next week on Wednesday 15 March and concluding on Monday 27 March . Our finalised test dates can be viewed below. Key NAPLAN dates and a breakdown of the testing timetable is available to be viewed here.
For further information regarding NAPLAN 2023, please access the PDF below, or contact your child's classroom teacher.
Chat Enjoy Play Stay (CEPS)
On Friday 24 March we will be holding our Chat Enjoy Play Stay (CEPS) community event on our school oval from 3.30-5.00pm. This is an opportunity for our families to come together and develop social connection. Our Parents Committee will be selling food and drink items (more info to come). Team Kids will be running games and activities for the students in attendance. We look forward to seeing everyone there. In accordance with the Department of Education's child safe standards, please note that this will be an alcohol-free event.
Getting to Know You Meetings
We have now completed our Term 1 'Getting to Know You' meetings. I would like to thank all of the parent/caregivers who have attended the meetings with our staff over the past fornight, and providing them with important insights into your child's learning and wellbeing. I would also like to thank our staff for their time and engagement in these meetings. We now encourage continued and open communication with your child's classroom teacher. We remind parents/caregivers that if your child is receiving allied health support (e.g. psychologist, occupational therapist or speech therapist) outside of the school, please ensure reports are shared with classroom teachers, so they can best support this work back in the classroom.
Principal Conference - Learner Agency
Last Thursday and Friday, Mrs Ward and I attended a Principal Conference with Principals and Assistant Principals from within our Kingston network, and the Beachside and SaGE (Stonnington and Glen Eira) networks. We were privileged to listen to a range of expert presenters, who engaged us in a range of professional learning focused on Student Voice and Agency. We then drilled down further to notion of building 'learner agency'. Learner agency is providing our students with the necessary skills to become independent, curious and autonomous learners. We now look forward to working collectively as a staff to develop 'learning agency' within our students here at CEPS.
Hats and Sunscreen
This is a quick reminder for students to bring their sunsmart hats (bucket or broad-brimmed) to school to wear when outside, as we are continuing to see many students without them. Hats are worn at school until the end of April in line with our sunsmart policy (attached below). We also strongly recommend the application of sunscreen to provide your child/ren with additional protection from the sun.
Labour Day 2023
A reminder that next Monday 13 April is the Labour Day public holiday and a pupil free day. Team Kids will not be offering a program on this day.
Have a great week ahead,
Robert Ridgway
Acting Principal
