Howdy everyone!

The past few weeks have been a blur, with so much going on before Term 1 wraps up. It has been a nostalgic time for the Year 12s who are experiencing the last Term 1 of their schooling days, whilst the Year 10s are settling seamlessly into the community at JMSS. Year 11s, hopefully you’re all getting the hang of VCE. Not to our surprise, JMSS just keeps outdoing itself in strengthening the culture with General Assemblies making a comeback and the many clubs (either new or continuing) providing a platform for creativity and connection.

A big development for this year is the revamping of the JMSS Diploma, with a change in point allocation to focus on student participation in events, which is the key to the elevated culture of JMSS. This includes sports, leadership, clubs, competitions, music, school awards, and more. The new Diploma will still continue to adapt to new school events. Throughout the year, there will be a google form up on the noticeboard website that students and staff can fill out if there’s an event that should be recognised in the Diploma. These entries will be reviewed by Parliament and staff at the end of the year and be added to the tally before the year’s totals are calculated.

The middle of the term was marked with our International Women’s Week, as activities celebrating the achievements of women ran every lunchtime throughout the week. Aligned with the themes of Embrace Equity and #DigitAll, the artwork, movie screening, Kahoot, scavenger hunt, and spikeball ran during lunchtimes, along with progressive discussions on the growing equality of opportunities in both the school and workforce giving many individuals the opportunity to express their opinions and experiences. Our assembly at the end of the week gave female students the opportunity to organise and participate in a school assembly, and the presentations really captured the importance of the pursuit of a just society.

Thanks to everyone involved, but a shout out to …

The World’s Greatest Shave is also approaching quickly, certainly an event to mark in your calendars with more than 25 participants (!!!), including students AND teachers shaving or cutting their heads in support of the Leukaemia foundation. Four students’ hair will be cut at school on a day between the 1st and 3rd of May, and like last time, teachers will also be faced with a forfeit to incentivise donations. Whether it be a pie to the face, a bucket full of ice, or a live performance of the chicken dance, the wheel of fate will determine who gets what and it will certainly be something to look forward to.

And still, after all this time, the sun never tells the Earth, "You owe me." Look what happens with love like that, it lights up the sky :) We wish everyone the best for the school holidays, and the year ahead.

Lots of love, Your school captains
