MEET THE STAFF - MISS POLGLAZE AND MR TORPY

MISS CHRIS POLGLAZE

House Coordinator - Carden and Teacher-in-charge of Dance

  1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I grew up in a very large family - I am one of eight children (six boys and two girls)! I was born 6th. Just about everyone knew someone from my family when I started to teach at Sacred Heart College in 2000.

I have been involved in Calisthenics since the age of five. I have coached Miss Moreton, Mrs Brosnan and Miss Tagg! I also did Scouts.

My favourite colour is pink and sparkly.

  2. What are you most passionate about in your job?
DANCE - practically, emotionally and theoretically. To dance is to live and I like to remind people of how much dance they see in their daily lives through ads, competitions, movies, parties and concerts. "DANCING MAKES YOU SMARTER" -Einstein. Do Dance! 🙂

I am also passionate about helping Dance teachers in other schools.

  3. What other schools have you worked at?
I worked at Wanneroo Senior High School (1990-1996), Bunbury Senior High School (1997-1999) and Warwick Senior High School (2000) before joining the Sacred Heart College family in 2000.

  4. Do you have any hobbies?
I love Calisthenics and enjoy writing and presenting courses to help make better coaches and performers.

  5. What do you like most about working at Sacred Heart College?
The family, PA6 (my classroom) and the view.

MR CHRIS TORPY

Education Assistant - Mary MacKillop Centre

  1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
At SHC I go by the name Mr Torpy or Mr T (different workout schedule to the one in A-Team!).

I graduated from Mater Dei College a fair while ago and went on to do a Cert IV in Community Service/Youth Work and a Cert III and IV in Disability Support.

In my spare time, I run two of my own businesses. One is supporting people living with a disability and the other is a clothing brand that I started a couple of years ago.

I began working at Sacred Heart nearly two years ago and have had a great experience since starting.

  2. What are you most passionate about in your job?
The students and staff that I work with are all such incredible and inspiring people! I am also passionate about helping others. It's such a rewarding feeling helping students progress with their learning and independence.

  3. What other schools have you worked at?
Prior to commencing at Sacred Heart I worked at Gladys Newton School in Balga for 10 years. The school was opened in 1971 for students living with a disability as it was sometimes difficult for them to have the help they needed. Gladys Newton is such an incredible school with so much positivity and inclusiveness.

  4. Do you have any hobbies?
Anything at the beach... swimming, surfing, snorkelling, fishing, boats, jet skis. I also enjoy playing baseball, drawing, going to music concerts and riding along the coast on my bike.

When I have some spare time, I like also like to work on designs for my clothing brand.

  5. What do you like most about working at Sacred Heart College?
There are so many great opportunities provided for students - make the most of it! I also like to see everyone getting along and having a good time. Plus, there are not too many people who can say they get ocean views as good as ours!
