INAUGURAL 'HEARTS ON FIRE' RED DRESS PROJECT LAUNCH

On Friday 3 March (Week 5), members of the Young Vinnies group and general College community were invited to a lunchtime presentation for the launch of our inaugural 'Hearts on Fire' Red Dress Project. It was lovely to see so many members of our community, including some recent graduates, gather to hear more about the project.Below is a summary of the event from one of the students who attended.

This community-based project is designed to raise awareness and funds to celebrate women and their stories and struggles. Many students gathered to hear from RNDM Sisters Sr Salota Aimalefoa and Sr Marie Therese Ryder, who spoke about the marginalised women they have worked with in Africa and the Philippines. This textile project will combine mission and arts as participants create and embroider a personal design (on red fabric for the dress/es) to communicate an element of their own identity and culture that they would like to share with others." - Jacinta Gibson (Year 12 Carden)

Students involved in the 'Hearts on Fire' Red Dress Project will meet fortnightly, starting with the creation of dress design ideas next week. Early in Term 2 we plan to host an evening event on campus – a Sewing For Sisters Supper Club, where interested community members can gather together in solidarity to start the embroidery, tapestry, crochet or knitting for the dress panels. Anyone can be involved in the Red Dress Project, whether its volunteering your time, talents or resources, or just to join us for a chat over some craft.

Our intention is to have all generations of our Sacred Heart Community represented in the Red Dress Project - mums, aunties and grandmas too, so keep an eye out in future newsletters for more information about the Sewing For Sisters Supper Club.
