MOCK TRIALS: ROUND ONE

On Tuesday, our Mock Trials team attended and competed in our first trial at the Western Australian Supreme Court against All Saints College. Our team consisted of myself and Siobhan Quinn (Head Girl/Year 12 Trinity) as our main barristers, Joel Matthews (Year 11 Trinity) and Zach Hayes (Year 10 Carden) as our witnesses, Lily Saville (Year 12 Hannan) as our solicitor and Rosita Nijo (Year 11 Normandy) as the court orderly. Joel did particularly well, filling in at the last minute in this role.

A funny moment was when our witness playing Henrietta Tan made an extremely contrasting statement when questioned. After firstly being asked if they were a good judge of character, they replied "no" and that they were a “bad judge of character”, but when asked the question again in re-examination they gave an overwhelming "yes, I consider myself an AMAZING judge of character" which caused the whole courtroom to erupt in laughter.

This was my first time competing in the Mock Trials here at Sacred Heart and I had a wonderful time working with such an incredible team and being taught by both Mrs Lazarus and Mr Andrijasevich, who guided us to victory.

We would like to say thank you to all teachers who were involved and gave us this opportunity to participate, and the continuing support from our fellow peers and parents/caregivers. We can’t wait to compete in our next trial where we can switch around our roles within our wider team.

Until next time!
