On Monday 19th June I went to the Regional Cross Country Championships at Brimbank Park. It was a very wet and cold morning. I ran in the U11s 3km race and came 23rd out of 90 runners. I was very proud to reach my goal of placing in the top 30. My other goal was to beat my time from the Division race a few weeks ago, but it was a bit hard to run fast in the mud. It wasn't raining for my race though so that was great. Next year I hope to make it to the state cross country championships.
From Pearl in the 5/6 Hub
On Wednesday 21st June, we welcomed our families into Hubs to share in the learning of our second Community Project, ‘Small Objects, Big Stories’. Children were immersed in the concept of perception and connected with a History lens from the Victorian Curriculum. It was great to see children proudly sharing the story of their project pathway and the different experiences that led there. The Prep Hub had a published book to launch. The One Hub children made some objects they thought could have come from an expensive shop and re-created Bunjil’s nest. The Two Hub created a shipwreck and made their own treasures. The Three Hub wrote stories of their family’s history and represented it through an object. The Four Hub created sculptures to symbolise stories of migration with wire. The Five/Six Hub investigated a host of historical events and captured the essence of these through creating a symbol with any materials they wanted.
”This is a migrant coming to Footscray, holding the world in their hands. They are touching Australia as that’s where they wanted to go.”. ~Lola, Hub Three
“I represented mine as a symbol of a butterfly as butterflies hatch from cocoons and that’s like their home. And once they hatch they fly away to find new homes. Refugees leave their current home to find a new home in Australia” ~Bella, Hub Five/Six
We are eagerly anticipating the third Community Project beginning in Term 3, ‘Ready to Launch’. This project will focus on exploring the concepts of force and process, and connects to the Science curriculum (particularly Physical Sciences, Science as a Human Endeavour and Science Inquiry Skills).
If you have an expertise in this area, we would love to hear from you. Please send an email to either Lauren ldavis@sjfootscray.catholic.edu.au or Amy alittley@sjfootscray.catholic.edu.au so we can hopefully leverage your knowledge and skills!
Kind regards,
Lauren and Amy
Sacrament of Confirmation
Adut, Kayla, Bella, Nikola, Sebastian, Angus, Manoj and Xavier
A big congratulations to our 2023 chidlren for their successful, very reverent participation in their Sacrament of Confirmation. Pictured with Bishop Martin Ashe, Fr. Rene and Fr. Gerald, the children lead with such hope and optimism for how they intend to live out the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit.
We also would like to thank Helen and the children from the St John’s Choir for bringing their beautiful voices to Mass and supporting the Confirmation children on the night.

Inform & Empower is also hosting a screening of ‘Embrace Kids’ at the Sun Theatre in the next school holidays. Embrace Kids is an uplifting film by 2023 Australian of the Year, Taryn Brumfitt. It brings together a vibrant collection of stories from young people and famous friends alike, who share their experiences about body image, bullying, gender identity, advocacy, representation and more.
This film aims to improve the body image of young people across Australia and the world. Aimed at an audience of 9-14 year olds, but equally engaging for adolescents, teachers, and parents, this film inspires, educates, and advocates for a world where we are not held back by the thoughts we have about the way we look. Instead, young people are encouraged to figure out what makes them unique and special, and use that to spark change.
EMBRACE KIDS
Tuesday 4 July, 12pm
The Sun Theatre, 8 Ballarat St, Yarraville
Adults: $20
