Principal – St John's Footscray
Dear parents and carers
What a wonderful term we have had of learning and fun. It was great to see so many families visiting the hubs to see some of the great projects that the children have been working on this term. If you missed out, please make sure you check out our Instagram page to see some of the images that have been uploaded @stjohnsfootscray. Tomorrow we finish off the term with our Term 2 Sports Day. Make sure you check out Seesaw during the day as the educators will be posting photos of the children participating in the different rotations.
Just a reminder that we finish for Term 2 holidays TOMORROW at 1pm.
Term 3 begins on Monday 10th July.
I would also like to draw your attention to a special event presented by Inform and Empower at the Yarraville Sun Theatre. This is a great opportunity to open the conversation around body image, bullying and identity with your children. Scan the QR code below to find out more and purchase tickets.
This week we sent out our Prep 2024 offers. We had a large number of applications and weren't able to offer everyone a place in our first round. If you are an exisiting family with a child starting Prep next year please send through your acceptance by the 12 July so we are able to contact families on our waiting list. It was so lovely to meet with you all and celebrate your child as they prepare for their school journey to begin at St John's.
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate Fr Rene who will be celebrating his Silver Jubilee of Priestly Ordination on the 27th June. We thank Fr Rene for his service and support to the Holy Family Parish and our school and I look forward to representing the staff of St John's at this celebration.
Staffing Update:
It is with sadness that I share the news that Amanda Prattico has decided to step down from her role as 5/6 Hub Educator due to personal reasons. While we won't see Amanda's face everyday at St John's she will be around in a casual capacity replacing educators when needed. We thank Amanda for her dedication to the children in her care over the last 18 months and look forward to her visiting tomorrow during our Sports Day.
With Amanda's news, I am pleased to announce that Erynn Stulhdreier has accepted the position of 5/6 Hub educator for the remainder of the year. Erynn has been with the 5/6 Hub this term and has already formed strong relationships and connections to the children. Erynn also has a strong understanding of the children as learners which will mean a smooth transition into Semester 2. Erynn will work Mondays - Thursdays and as mentioned in previous newsletters, we welcome Mel Caruana back for Fridays.
Today we farewelled Jayka. We will miss Jayka's upbeat positivity and laugh. We thank her for the learning she has shared as an educator of Japanese. We wish Jayka every happiness as she builds a new life in Vancouver with her husband Mathew.
Student Reports & Learning Conversations:
This week, every child was sent home with a note about Learning Conversations, how to book and which Educator you need to book with. If you haven't received this note, I encourage you to check your child's school bag or contact the office 9687 3150 to find out the information.
Learning Conversations will take place first week back on Tuesday 11th July 3:30 -7pm and Wednesday 12th July 3:30 - 5:30pm. Please make sure your child attends with you so they can share what they are most proud of their learning from Semester 1 with you.
Parents will be able to access their child's Semester 1 Student Report from the Community Portal tomorrow. We will send out an email to all families announcing when these are ready.
I would like to wish everyone a wonderful break over the next fortnight. For those who are travelling I hope you have a safe journey.
Warm wishes
Emily
