Music Update 

Interesting music fact:   'Children who study a musical instrument are more likely to excel in all of their studies, work better in teams, have enhanced critical thinking skills, stay in school, and pursue further education.' (Arte Music Academy 2014).

 

OPPORTUNITY: for students in Year 10 & 11

Melbourne Recital Centre has just launched Accelerando applications for 2024. 

This free year-long music program is open to Victorian Government Secondary School students in Years 10, 11 and 12 in 2024 who experience geographic, financial or other barriers to accessing high quality live music performances and industry experiences. The program includes instrumental lessons, industry workshops, concert tickets, mentor sessions, and an end of year performance in Melbourne Recital Centre’s Primrose Potter Salon.

 

All instrumentalists and vocalists of any genre are welcome to apply online by Friday 15 September 2023. More information can be found at melbournerecital.com.au/accel

MID-YEAR MUSIC CONCERT

The Mid-Year Music concert has been recorded, hopefully you got to watch some of the live streams! The full concert will be available for you to view early in term 3.

 

HOLIDAY MUSIC INTENSIVE with Speak Percussion

During the upcoming term break, Speak Percussion will be running a School Holiday Intensive for secondary music students.This intensive will be a creative development for a new work called Dark Voyages, to be performed by the participating students at the University of Melbourne's Science Gallery in late 2023. The work explores the story of the Voyager spacecraft and the Golden Record, using percussion and artificial intelligence to imagine a new musical language. 

 

Key details for the program are as follows:Dates: Wednesday 5 July - Friday 7 JulyTime: 10am-1pmVenue: Darebin Arts Centre (corner Bell St & St George's Road, Preston)Cost: FREEStudents will be working with traditional and non-traditional percussion instruments. All materials will be provided, and both percussionists and non-percussionists are encouraged to apply.
