Student Leadership

School Firsts this we

It has been a big week for Leadership with two significant firsts for our school

Young Leaders Network Day:

Twenty five of our school leaders in years 7 to 11 had the pleasure of networking with over 70 student leaders from our 3 feed primary schools - Woodlands, Langwarrin and Langwarrin Park for a leadership network day. The day started with our School Captain, Chiara and Vice Captain, Amelia welcoming and ushering in the primary schools. Two of our Koorie students, Noah and Jeffrey then gave a stirring Acknowledgement to Country and quotes from leaders who inspire them. The 90 odd participants then took part in four workshops over the day to build their leadership skills. The highlight for most students was the afternoon Q&A session with 4 Alumni students who attended EMC. Tom (Director of Coastal Cladding), Holly (Lawyer), Brittany (Nurse) and Brooke (Basketball superstar) talked of their personal journey through school and into their careers.  A special thanks to our Vice Captain Lucas who  got around to each session and networked with students from all schools to bring them together. A big thanks also to Oliver Cabay and JJ Robinson for taking care of the light and sound for us in the auditorium. Lastly to the 25 students who participated, thanks for setting high standards across the entire day and showing our primary school peers how a model EMC student gets involved and engages in their learning.

Student Led Class Captain workshops:

For the first time this year we held a fortnightly workshop for all of our class captains in Years 7 to 11. Vice Captain Amelia  was ably assisted by Chiara  to plan and organise a series of leadership activities based off workshops they had attended earlier in the year outside of the school. Over 70 students took part in the workshop which focussed on hands on teamwork and communication skills. A big thanks to our School Captains Lucas, Jenaya and Shelby; Sports Captains Eva and Brodie and Vocational Major Captains Harry, Cooper and Charlotte for helping to facilitate the group activities. They received some really touching feedback from students who participated in the workshops with some now aspiring to be School Captains in the future.
