PENTECOST FESTIVAL: A NIGHT OF JOY, LANTERNS AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT
By Leesa Esmore (Kinder Educator)
A few weeks ago we had our Pentecost Festival. It was an amazing night! The children were so excited to come to Kinder in the evening.
Our families bought food to share and we told them about the ascension of Christ and how the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples to spread the word of God.
We also made lanterns and walked around the oval in the dark, the children found that very exciting!
It was a great night for sharing God's word and community. Overall a great success! Thank you to everyone who participated.
GO THE EXTRA MILE: KINDER MAKES A DIFFERENCE
By Eileen Lubbers (Kinder Educator)
During May the 3YO & 4YO Old Kinder classes participated in ‘Go the Extra Mile’. They have been walking both at Kinder and at home to help raise funds to support Hope Builders International, and help to break the cycle of poverty for children who are at risk, and widows in Uganda.
We had Glenn visit us from Hope Builder’s to explain what ‘Go the Extra Mile’ means and how we can join in. He brought photographs of Bright, Ruth, Francis and Elizabeth, who are children at Hope Builders, and we found out their stories and of the wonderful work the Hope Builders is doing in their lives. He also brought along a large picture of one of the children which was painted using coffee. The children also made ‘coffee’ pictures although some of them were a bit unsure of the coffee scent.
The children did laps around the upper oval. There was lots of enthusiasm and celebrating as the children and staff made their way around the track. With shouts of “Go Team Kinder” and cheering for the effort made.
The children loved getting the tick for each lap they completed.
Thank you to our children, families and wider community for their support, effort and donations for this worthy cause.

EXPLORING FOOD AND SUSTAINABILITY
By Kirsty Meese (Kinder Director)
Recently Kinder had Aquatic Achievers come to visit us and talk to us about food and sustainability. We learnt that some people are allergic to food and were surprised to hear that people who are allergic to dairy, can't eat chocolate!
We learnt about the different types of bins that food, rubbish and waste can go into, and how some items in the recycling bin can be turned into something else, such as playground equipment, roads, slides and even clothes. We also learnt how important it is to make sure that our rubbish goes into the bin, so that it doesn't blow away and go into the creek where the platypus live, as we know that platypus don’t like to eat rubbish, and it might make them sick.
We discussed different types of food that we can eat everyday and sometimes, then had to play a game deciding which foods were which. Some foods like bananas, carrots and lettuce were easy to decide upon. However ice-cream caused some debate and one of the reasons we thought it might be a "sometimes food" because, "it sometimes gives you a headache". We can't wait for our next adventure.
