Prep Update

Welcome to Term 3!

Upcoming learning

During the next fortnight, Prep students are undertaking learning in the following areas:

Reading	Week 2: We are reading a range of Dreamtime stories, including The Rainbow serpent and How the Kangaroos got their tails. We are focusing on making predictions and stretching out unknown words. Week 3: We will be focusing on the skill of inferring and reading the story 'Don't call me a bear!' We will continue to engage in daily Phonics lessons, focusing on diagraphs /ss/ and /ff/. We are focusing on one sound per week and continuing to link our learning to the sounds learnt earlier in the year.
Writing	Week 2 & 3: We will be learning about what a sentence is and how to form a sentence. We are using sentence starters to write about the animals from our stories in Reading sessions, including a serpent and a koala.
Maths	Week 2: We will be focusing on ordinal number. Week 3: We will be learning about measurement using informal units.
Inquiry	Week 2: We are beginning a new unit on Australian animals. Some focuses will be: What is an Australian Native Animal? What does Indigenous mean? How Indigenous Peoples care for the land and living things. Week 3: We will be looking at where these native animals live in Australia. We will be matching names to animals and learning about habitats and weather changes.
Social and Emotional	Week 2: This week will be all about what is means to be a good friend. Week 3: We will be starting our unit on Respectful Relationships.

Reader satchel update- In Term 3, we will be asking students to bring along their reader satchel on Mondays and Thursdays each week. This will help with pasting our new sound in and changing of readers 2 times per week. In between the reader change, please continue reading our decodable book as this will help with fluency, comprehension and blending skills.
Heart words- Teachers will be checking heart words throughout the week and updating them as needed.
100 DAYS OF SCHOOL!! This is coming on Monday the 31st of July! We are SO excited! Just a reminder that on this day, the Preps will be dressing up as '100 years old.'
Moonlit Sanctuary excursion- Please provide consent and payment via Compass as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please ask your child's classroom teacher.
Prep students have settled in so well into Term 3 and we are incredibly proud of them!
