Principal's Message

Linda Buckeridge: Principal

WELCOME BACK!

I hope you are all well rested after the last couple of weeks and that getting back into a routine hasn't been too tricky! Term 3 is going to be a fabulous term, with a wide range of activities planned across all year levels. Please ensure you are checking Compass to stay up to date with what is happening across the school.

EVENTS TERM 3

As mentioned in previous newsletters, please ensure you save the date for the whole school events below and keep your eye on the Compass calendar for all other information.

  • Tuesday 1st August  - Curriculum Day - No students at school
  • 21-25 August - BOOK WEEK
  • 28/8 -  30/8 - Year 4 Camp
  • Friday 1st September - Fathers and Special Others Breakfast
  • Monday 4th & Tuesday 5th September - Parent Teacher Interviews 3.30 - 6.45pm
  • Friday 8th September - Footy Day!
  • Thursday 14th September - RUOK Day and THE COLOUR EXPLOSION!!!

STAFF CARPARK

Please remember that the staff carpark is not for student/family entry and exit, unless attending OSHC. Unfortunately there have been near misses with students running through the carpark and movement of cars. I ask you to please help us in this matter and talk to your children and guide them around on the footpaths provided.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

With the colder months upon us I can see that our students are rugging up and adding layers to stay warm. Can I please remind the community that our school colours are navy and red with a splash of white. Black is not one of our uniform colours. Where possible please ensure that all extra pieces of clothing your child wears are as best as possible in our school colours, including beanies. However, layers that can be seen such as tights, leggings, long sleeves under t shirts must be navy, red or white please - not black!

Also, I have been liaising with PSW our uniform supplier to gain understanding about the new style t-shirts not being available in larger sizes, or at all. I hope that this can be rectified soon.

YARD ACCESS BEFORE SCHOOL

Just a reminder that our supervision at Hillsmeade PS commences at 8.35am. Students attending before this time should be accessing OSHC, if coming to school without an adult to stay with them and supervise their movements. On Breakfast Club mornings we have staff serving the food, but official supervision commences at 8.35am.

School Production Recap

What a night we had on the last Wednesday of Term 2! Bunjil Place was alive with so much excitement as our Year 4/5/6 students performed their much rehearsed show 'Mystery at Magpie Manor'.

I acknowledged the hard work of everyone during my speech on the night but I just wanted to reiterate how proud I am of everyone involved, especially our students. What a phenomenal event to be involved in and I could not wipe the smile off my face for days afterwards as I thought about what a wonderful experience it was for all. I look forward to two years time when we can do it all again!!

ATHLETICS DAY RECAP

The day after production was Athletics Day for our 4/5/6 students as well. The weather blessed us, providing a still and sunny day for our students to compete at Casey Fields. It was a huge event planned by Ahmad Chazbek and supported by so many staff, but best of all was seeing the students running around and sharing their success stories with myself and their peers and families. A truly fun day for everyone!

STAFFING UPDATE

A huge congratulations to Emma Zach who has been appointed to the role of Acting Learning Specialist during semester two. Emma will now spend 4.5 days out of the classroom, supporting staff and students in a range of capacities. As a result, we welcome back Ms Tessa Strickland to the classroom, as she is now the teacher of 1A.

2024 PLANNING and ENROLMENTS

Planning is well underway already for 2024. I ask that you please let your class teacher or the school office know about any changes that you may be making regarding schooling and enrolments.

Prep 2024 enrolments have already begun and I encourage anyone looking at enrolling their child in Prep next year to ensure you have spoken to the school and started the enrolment process.

At this stage we are not taking out of zone enrolments, but a waitlist has been created and if we do move down this path we will contact families late Term 3, early Term 4.
