Instrumental Music Performance Season.

It has been a busy end of semester with lots of instrumental evenings showcasing our instrumental students. A big thank you to our student crew for volunteering for each of the evenings.

Piano Soiree

Congratulations to the following piano students of Katrina Halliday, who performed on Thursday, 1st June in our new theatre for the first time:

Everyone entered into the spirit of the Pajama Party costume theme. Best costume was won by Alicia and the best bow was awarded to Amelia.

Farewell to Hayden Dun

A huge thank you to Hayden Dun, who will sadly be leaving MGC early next term to teach in the UK. We wish him all the best on his new adventure. We will miss him teaching and accompanying our Year 12 Music students so beautifully.

Inaugural Instrumental Music Concert

On Monday the 19th June, we were very excited to have our very first concert featuring all of the ensembles at MGC in our new Theatre to conclude our Semester 1 Performance season.

The evening featured our Orchestra, Choir, A’capella Choir, Junior and Senior Rock Bands, Senior String Ensemble, Senior Saxophone Ensemble and a sneak peek of a number from our upcoming production of “Grease”. The night concluded with a finale of our choirs combining with our Orchestra to perform “Africa”. 

A huge thank you to our instrumental teachers, Ellyce Calder (Choir) Andy Clarke (Junior and Senior Rock Bands) Susan de Jong (A’capella Choir) and Tony Hicks (Production Band and Orchestra).

Year 8 Battle of the Bands

Year 8 Music classes culminated this semester with class performances of their rock bands. Students voted for which band would represent them at our very first “Battle of the Bands” at lunchtime on Thursday, 15th June. Congratulations to the following students for participating and to our overall winners, “The Jackson 7” from 8E, who performed “Billie Jean” and “7 Nation Army” won the prize for best instrumental.
