From the Wellbeing Portfolio

Hi MGC Community! We hope everyone’s Term 2 has been at a manageable pace, and that there was time to rest 😊 The Wellbeing Portfolio’s ‘Quiet Lunch’ has been a success this term, with new activities being introduced, wonderful staff and students who respect each other, and further, as a space for those who need a more tranquil sensory environment during lunch.

Thank you, Danielle Floyd, Brittany Killer and Ms Grey-Smith, for supervising and making sure the ‘Quiet Lunch’ also offers students someone to talk to and feel comfortable and secure with.

Beyond the ‘Quiet Lunch’, the Wellbeing Team has also run focus groups to gather where there is room for growth at MGC in terms of mental health and how students, staff and guardians can support each other the best.

Coming up in Term 3, there are also fun events to look forward to!

  • Odyssey House Fundraiser (Date TBC)
To support Odyssey House, which raises awareness on the negative impacts of drugs and alcohol and consistently gives a helping hand to those who need it, MGC and the Wellbeing team are going to give back! We will be running a gold-coin donation trivia (with prizes) and providing $2 hot chocolate, so please stay tuned for a date and join in to stay warm on this day in Term 3.
  • International Day of Friendship (30th July)
To celebrate friendship, though it may be cheesy to some, the Wellbeing team is running a friendship-bracelet-making lunchtime! It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and to appreciate all those who are there for you, especially in high school.
  • RUOK? Day (14th September)
One of the biggest suicide prevention charities in Australia, RUOK shows how a conversation could change a life. The Wellbeing team are planning ways in which MGC can initiate more conversation and foster more open spaces which allow sensitive topics to be discussed with security and without shame. Please keep your eye on the newsletter in Term 3 to hear more about our plans for this day and how you can be part of the conversation!

The Wellbeing Portfolio will try the best they can to make every MGC student feel recognised and supported, and if you have any questions, concerns or feedback please use any of the contacts below! Have a wonderful holiday everyone and we look forward to keeping you updated on all the Wellbeing plans in Term 3 😊
