School for Student Leadership 2023: Applications now open

Dear Year Nine Students and families,

Applications are now open for those of you interested in the School for Student Leadership 2023. 

The School for Student Leadership (SSL) is a Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development initiative offering a unique 9-week residential education experience for year nine students. There are 45 students at each campus, approximately between 3 to 7 students from 8 different schools from all over Victoria. 

The curriculum focuses on leadership, teamwork, outdoor experiences, personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are four campuses in iconic locations across Victoria. In 2023 Melbourne Girls’ College have been allocated six places at the Don Valley campus in the Yarra Ranges in Term 4. The surrounding environment caters for a range of unique outdoor activities to take place, including white water canoeing, mountain biking, hiking and overnight expeditions to places like the Cathedral Ranges. The rich indigenous history of the local area is a key learning focus, as is regular interaction with local community groups and schools.

This is a very popular program for Year 9 students and we only wish we had more places to offer! 

If you wish to apply:

1. Download and complete the application form and approval form (which includes a parent consent form). This has been emailed to students and posted in the Compass Newsfeed. You will need parent/guardian approval and the name of an MGC staff member that can act as a referee for your application. 
2. Email the complete application to Ms Carre at Meredith.carre@mgc.vic.edu.au. If you have a handwritten copy that is fine, however you will need to scan it and email as well. The deadline for applications is Tuesday July 11th at 4pm. No applications will be accepted after this date. 

Applications will then be shortlisted and between 8-10 students will be interviewed for the positions.
