Year 10 Victorian Institute of Sports Visits

Year 10 Human Movement, Healthy Mind Healthy Body (HMHB) and Biomechanics classes had the opportunity to visit the Victorian Institute of Sports.

During the nutrition education sessions, the HMHB students learned about the basics of good nutrition. They learned about what food can do for you and how to make good food choices, extending to more specific sports nutrition principles such as periodising an athlete’s diet to optimise sporting performance.

During the interactive sport science education session, the Human Movement and Biomechanics classes learnt about each of the different areas of sport science and how they relate to elite athlete performance.

VIS Sport Scientists took the students through real-life athlete examples and gave them exclusive insights into how athletes train, and how their performance in training and competition is closely monitored to ensure they reach their full potential. Students got the opportunity to test their lower body muscular power using the pressure plates and their torque power output using the specialised bicycle.

Years 7 & 8 Train Like A Vixen – State Netball Excursion

As part of preparation for junior school interschool sports, students had the opportunity to attend the newly redeveloped State Netball Centre (SNC) and train on the same courts the Melbourne Vixens train and play on.

Students learnt netball skills, had a tour of the world-class facility, and developed an understanding of what it takes to become an elite athlete.
