Year 7 Engineers without Borders Workshops

Last week our Year 7 science students were visited by Engineers without Borders volunteers currently studying at RMIT University. Students learnt about humanitarian engineering and the concept of appropriate technology, before being challenged to design and build water filters to purify dirty water. The workshop provided a real-world context to the separation techniques we have been studying in science.

Students were put in the shoes of different countries with varying access to resources and education and had to think and design their water filters in their country groups.

Students had a great time thinking outside the box and applying their knowledge of separation techniques!

A big thank you to the volunteers from RMIT for providing these wonderful workshops, and for our students for being such attentive participants!
