House Athletics 2021

When the PE staff arrived at Casey Fields Athletics Track early on the morning of Friday 8 May, it was shrouded with fog so thick that the finish line was no where to be seen. Thankfully, as the students arrived, the fog magically lifted and revealed the Nossal House Athletics Carnival of 2021. With COVID cancelling last year’s event, there were many excited students keen to impress with their athletic prowess, and wow, were we impressed when the competition began.

The long-distance events began the day as records were set out on the field. The 100m and 200m sprints entertained the crowd and the overall attitude for the day was set as – ‘sure, I’ll give that a go!’

As always, the 4 x 100m relay events stole the show as each house reigned supreme in at least one race. Finally, the staff team impressed as Mr Bird led his relay to victory with a blitzing and muscle-tearing final leg sprint.

Thank you to all the students for their mammoth efforts on the day, including on the track, in the field and in various volunteer positions to help with the swift functioning of the carnival. Thanks also to the staff for their continued support and enthusiasm of the House Sports Program. Well done to Griffin for taking home a convincing win, and to the below listed age-group champions for their success.

Division Cross Country Carnival

A cold but mostly clear morning greeted 75 brave runners as they arrived for the 2021 Division Cross Country Carnival. Held at Akoonah Park against a strong crowd of schools from two divisions.

Nossal was excellently represented as up to 10 students qualified for each age group and gender thanks to their efforts at the House Carnival in late term 1.

Congratulations!

The 17+ age group started the day as Jazlyn Yap took home the prized gold medal with her blistering pace in the 3km event. She was followed closely by Senithi De Silva in 3rd and Alex Nilos in 4th to start our campaign confidently. Strong runs from Victor Sirucek, Rippy Sohi, Aryan Mittal and Yinan You followed, with Nadia Rakin taking home a 2nd ribbon against strong competition.

An incredible 44 students have qualified for the Regional competition on 21 June, so we wish them well. Many thanks to Ms Deb Engler, Ms Leslie Cilia and Ms Yvonne Sly for braving the icy weather to assist on the day and to all competitors for their persistence and spirit.
