What time is it? Performing Arts!

Year Prep:

In Performing Arts, the students have started to learn about the elements of dance. They explored how we use space, timing, energy and a variety actions to express dance movements. Students have performed to a range of songs, movement stories and dance routines that bring out their talent and creativity. They have explored movements as animals in an Aboriginal Dreamtime dance, performed fast and energetic movements to a rock n’ roll version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star song and pretended to be characters such as giants, monsters, butterflies and robots to further express the dance elements. Students will continue to share their dance ideas throughout the term and reflect on how to be a better performer through peer and teacher feedback.

Year 1/2:

In Performing Arts, the students have been working hard to rehearse and present a dance performance from the movie, ‘Trolls.’ They have enjoyed learning an energetic, fun and exciting dance routine that they will show to a buddy class and a chosen class will perform at assembly. Students have reflected each week on how they have used the dance elements: timing, energy, space and actions to engage their audience as confident, strong performers. Students will conclude the term with continuing to build their movement vocabulary and create their own dance sequences using the dance elements.

Year 3/4:

In Performing Arts, the students have been building their understanding of the drama elements to act out improvised and scripted drama in the space. They have used role-play to explore how characters would feel in the imagined situation and have collaborated with others to create and present scenes in response to a stimulus (such as a story or using a prop as a symbol). Students will conclude the term with performing a reader’s theatre script based on a fairy tale, using the drama skills they have learned throughout term to engage their audience.

Year 5/6:

In Performing Arts, students have been rehearsing a short ‘Hansel & Gretel’ play script which incorporates different fairy tale characters coming together to save the children from the wicked witch. Students learned about the auditioned process prior to the Term 1 and received the roles to learn at the start of Term 2. They have been working towards interpreting their character’s lines and give them meaning using voice and movement acting techniques. Students have been learning to use rehearsal time effectively to collaborate with others and then perform their scene to the class. Our Art program has collaborated with Performing Arts to paint a setting backdrop to teach students about stage craft elements for a theatrical production.

Events

Alpha Shows will be presenting ‘CINDERELLA’ at our school on Wednesday, 9 June 2021.

Alpha Shows brings real, quality theatre to people who don’t normally have a chance to see a full production musical and provides great links to literacy and social emotional learning.  Students will have the opportunity to be immersed in this educational performance on stage and meet three villains! Children will protest against the injustice served up to Cinderella by her stepsisters and the Evil stepmother, as this is often the most relevant to how a child can feel. Cinderella as a result sometimes feels like she’s not good enough, so the Fairy Godmother helps her by taking her and the audience on a beautifully guided journey called an ’emotional flood’, that can invigorate all the love and joy you need in any moment. The Prince himself is not perfect and gets help to overcome his fears! This show will have you dancing and singing – maybe even on stage! – for days and weeks to come.
