CIAO! (Hello!)

Aitken Hill Primary School students have been very busy this term learning how to converse in Italian!

Students from Prep to Six have been practising words such as: buongiorno (good morning), buon pomeriggio (good afternoon) and arrivederci (see you later). They have also learnt conversational questions and phrases such as: Come ti chiami? (what is your name?) Quanti anni hai? (how old are you?) and Quanti fratelli hai? (How many siblings do you have?)

All students are also continuing to revise the numbers 0 -10, learning numbers to 20, and years 1-6 are also looking at numbers to 100. If you are not sure of how to pronounce the numbers in Italian, especially numbers 0 -10, please check out the video links at the bottom of this page!

This term, we are also beginning to learn how to say the colours, days of the week, months of the year, and the seasons in Italian. Students are learning about how Italy has different seasons at different times of the year!

In Prep to Grade 2 we are learning the Rainbow song. You can find the English and Italian version in one video by clicking on this ARCOBALENO (rainbow!)

L'Aarcobaleno!
L'Aarcobaleno!

"Rosso e giallo, e rosa e verde! Viola, arancione e blu!

Canto l'arcobaleno, l'arcobaleno, canti anche tu!"

Handy Hint: Remember that CI or CE in Italian makes a 'ch' sound, and CH in Italian makes a 'k' sound - so the word arancione (which means 'orange') is pronounced [a-run-chio-neh] and the word anche (which means 'also/too') sounds like this [un-keh].

And as always: a  reminder for students to download the DUOLINGO app - it's free, and you can practise Italian at home, on a smartphone, iPad or computer!

Grazie mille! (many thanks!)

Best wishes,

Signora Michelle
