Library Collections

It is extremely important that the Library collections are different to classroom readers. I try very hard to let the choices the students make to read in the Library are their own choice, and to have a wide variety of books available. There are direct links to reading for pleasure and academic success. I shared an article about this last week and I have left the information below in case you would like another look.

It is very important your child takes the chance to borrow at each opportunity to provide an interesting selection of reading material. Bags are a must and the Library class days are:

Odd weeks of the term:

Monday: 5W 5C

Wednesday: 3P 3R

Thursday: KD 1K

Friday: 1H 1C 2B

Even weeks of the term:

Monday:  4A  4S

Tuesday:  KU  KL

Wednesday:  Year 6

Thursday:  2R  2M

Friday:  3K  5CG  4Q

Early Bird Book Club

This morning saw the inaugural Early Bird Book Club at the Infants Campus (photo above). On the days the Library is open, it will be available for students to come and read before school. It was very popular this morning and a lot of reading was enjoyed. Mrs Madden even read the story 'Fearless' to a few students who were keen to hear a story rather than read. As time goes on, we will formalise this opportunity for students to get in some extra fun reading time.

We start 'Early Birds' at the Primary Campus tomorrow.

Volunteer Book Coverers

Thanks to all the people who have covered books at home over the past few months, it is very much appreciated. If you still have any at home, it would be great to get them back and into the hands of our little readers. Arrival at either campus is fine and we can work on getting them into the classrooms at the Infants Campus. Thank you so very much!

'Reading for Leisure' Supports Academic Success

Teachers have known this for years, but there is constant research out there to show that readers who read for pleasure do better at school! If you would like a light article to read about this topic please go HERE, it takes but a minute to read. It is an American article but applies just the same.

My personal philosophy to support this concept is to make the books attractive, have freedom of choice and encourage reading by being positive and not making it a chore. Let them read what they want to read when reading for pleasure!

See you in the Library!
