A message from Dr Jake

Dear Parents & Friends,

Parent/Teacher Conferences are an important part of communication with the school. The report card presents parents with the facts, but a comprehensive evaluation of your child, as well as the sharing of valuable information, takes place at the interview.

Interviews are intended to be a two-way communication mechanism that will benefit your child's progress in school. To maximize the time and make the interview a profitable one, the following are some specific questions you could ask your child's teacher:

  • Is my child meeting your expectations?
  • How does my child get along with the other children?
  • What is my child's self-esteem like?
  • Is my child continually having difficulties? If so, what specialist has been consulted?
  • Who are his/her friends?
  • Does my child complete the assignments?
  • Are the assignments completed to the best of my child's ability?
  • Is my child cooperative in class?
  • Does my child volunteer answers?
  • Does my child work well in a group setting - does he/she contribute in a positive way?
  • Does my child come to class prepared to work?
  • Does my child come for extra help?
  • Is extra help available?
  • Does my child exhibit responsibility for his/her behaviour as well as for personal and school property?
  • What can I do to help?

Remember that there is a time limit on your interview. Please be on time as the teacher has many other parents to see. If you feel you need more discussion, please book a further appointment.

Your teachers work hard and will have work samples on hand to show you your child's progress. Often at these interviews, student goals are discussed and key targets developed.

All the best for your interviews and feel free to come and say hello to me.

Enjoy your long weekend!

Peace & Best Wishes.
