Messages from our Specialist team (P.E., STEAM, Music and Mandarin)...

P.E.

Grade 1/2 PE (Remote Learning Style):

All of our SMPS superstar students kept active over the remote learning period!

Students two most favourite games/workouts were the video-game-style workouts and the spin the wheel game. Click the links below if you want to try them again :)

Athletics/Sports Day (Term 3 - Friday 13th August):

Thank you to all of the parents who have offered to volunteer their time on excursions. If any parents have a WWCC and would like to volunteer their time to help out with this year's Athletics Day please email callum.freel@southmelbourneps.vic.edu.au

Information will be sent out to all parent volunteers soon regarding Athletics Day.

Mr Callum plans to hold some "training days" so you can understand your role on the day.

These will either be in the last week of term or the start of Term 3.

STEAM

Well it certainly has been an interesting couple of weeks for the Grade 3 & 4 students in STEAM. During the first week of lockdown, they developed their block coding skills by creating their own Flappy Bird game and their very own Dance Party. Last week, they were re-introduced to the magic of the Green Screen. When we return to school they will be creating their own videos using the DoInk app.

Mandarin

Grade 5 and 6 (Remote Learning):

We have been exploring the Chinese culture in Grade 5 and 6. This week we discussed Chinese calligraphy. We learned about the history of Chinese calligraphy as well as the technique of holding a calligraphy brush. Here are the photos of our lovely students engaging in learning through Webex.

Music

This week in the Prep Remote Learning Music Sessions, we have been using Chrome Music Lab. Students have been learning to create short pieces of music with a focus on developing melodies with patterns. We have covered the topics of pitch and rhythm. In particular, how these elements of music relate to melody. Students were also challenged to add a bassline and drum beat to their melodies in our second session for the week.
