Flora & Fauna

COOKING: Our level 3 students are now into their third rotation of cooking in Flora and Fauna. After honing their skills peeling, slicing and dicing during the first two rotations the students are applying those skills to produce some baked treats. The apple and cinnamon scrolls were delicious and the aromas emanating from our Gallery were noticed by many of our staff and students! They are also practising new skills such as weighing dry ingredients and measuring liquids.  As the year progresses, new skills and techniques will be learned to further enhance the abilities of our budding master chefs! The importance of kitchen safety and cleaning up after yourself is also reinforced each week. Thank you again to our parent helpers!

SCIENCE & SUSTAINABILITY: In Science ‘Fresh vs Processed Foods’ is the topic being examined. The students have been busy investigating how much sugar is in certain processed foods. Many have been surprised when comparing the different amounts of sugar they have measured into their cups! In ‘Sustainability’ students are engaging with ‘Waste in our Oceans’. They are researching the impact that plastics have in our oceans (especially the deepest parts of our oceans) and how our oceanic ecosystems are adversely affected.

GARDEN HARVEST AND GARDEN MAINTENANCE: Level 3 students have been busy working hard planting, harvesting and maintaining the gardens around the school. Students have been preparing garden beds and planting various plants and seeds such as pak choy and lavender. The students have brought an excellent ‘can do’ attitude and are more than happy to get their hands dirty in the garden.
