Student-Led Conferences 2021

We are delighted to announce Student-Led Conferences will be returning in Week 10 of Term 2.

 

Each conference will run for 15 minutes and will include the student, parent or carer and classroom teacher/s.

The first 8-10 minutes is for the conference and the remaining 5 minutes is offered if a discussion is required between the parent and teacher only.

 

Your child will lead a discussion about their learning and may refer to work samples in their Student Learning Portfolio, work books and their iPad. Students will prepare for the conference during class time and for this reason the Student Learning Portfolio will not be sent home until after the conference. As the portfolio is a cumulative folder, we would ask that it be returned to the classroom teacher on the first day of Term 3. It will be sent home for you to keep at the end of the school year.

 

Conferences will be offered in the final week of Term 2. Please see below:

  • Monday 21st                  5/6W     3.30-6.00pm

The Student-Led Conferences can be booked via the Sentral Parent Portal. We will advise when the booking portal is open, closer to the time.

 

The Student-Led Conference is a powerful way for students to share their learning and I encourage parents and carers to take part in this opportunity. Parents are always welcome to arrange a mutually convenient time to discuss their child’s progress at any other time during the year.

Mobile Phones

In January 2020, the Department of Education and Training Mobile Phones – Student Use Ministerial Policy was issued. If your child does bring a phone to school or any other device capable of connecting to a mobile phone network, it must be switched off and stored at the school office. The device can then be collected at the end of the day. This includes an iPad with connectivity.

We ask our parents to limit communication through your child’s technology to before and after school, if and when necessary. Please refrain from communicating throughout the school day as it is disruptive to our students’ learning time. If you need to contact your child during the day, please phone the school office on 03 9874 6381.

iPads

In recent weeks we have found that some student iPads are coming to school with direct internet connectivity (SIM cards) and inappropriate applications. We request that SIM cards and inappropriate applications are removed from any device, as they are not permitted at Rangeview Primary School. Our internet service, provided by the Department of Education and Training, is set up to block students from any inappropriate website or application, however a device with a SIM card and its own connectivity can bypass our system and students can access any content available on the internet, posing a safety risk to students. 

We have also had discussions with a number of students and families about the excessive and inappropriate use of messaging from one student to another and chat groups, outside of school hours. Applications such as Facebook, Tik Tok, Instagram, Snapchat and Among Us and a number of chat and messenger platforms are not suitable for devices at school as they are listed 13+ years.
