Student News 2

The Henry Kendall High School Mock Trial team competed against St Edward's Team on Thursday 27 May. It was a civil trial with the St Edward's plaintiff aiming to sue our client, the Burwood Shire Council. The Council was accused of not adequately ensuring that some heritage trees did not damage the plaintiff's property.

Our first Barrister, Arabella Kimber gave an excellent opening address and cross-examination of St Edward's first witness. Our second Barrister, Emily Duruz coped well with a hostile witness who kept arguing with her instead of answering the questions that were asked in cross examination. Henry Kendall's witnesses, Zoe Delaney and Annabel Worrad gave their statements word for word achieving excellent scores.

A big thank you to Jessica Falkingham who acted as our Court Officer. Overall the Mock Trial Team defeated St Edward's Team by around 40 points!

A thank you to St Edward's College for hosting the trial at their school and the Magistrate who joined us via Teams from Wollongong. We look forward to Round 4 against Lake Munmorah High School.

NAIDOC DAY

The Henry Kendall High School Cooinda students visited Point Clare Public School on Friday 18 June 2021, with students from Gosford Public School and Gosford High School. Our students participated in a series of workshops such as weaving, dancing, painting and learning about the Torres Strait Islander culture, all facilitated by Dhinewan Mentoring.

A big thank you to Point Clare Public School for putting together such an awesome day for us all.

LET'S MOVE!!

Over the course of Term 3 the House Captains have been running the 'Let's Move at Lunchtime' initiative. The aim of this initiative is to increase participation rates in physical activity across the school. Every Wednesday the House Captains setup and referee basketball, volleyball, touch football and soccer and ensure that students are playing in an inclusive and safe environment. It is great to see our active spaces very busy at lunchtime.

Well Done House Captains and congratulations to all involved with “Lets Move At Lunchtime”. Such a great initiative!

Under 16's Girls Futsal

The Under 16's girls Futsal Team traveled to Maitland Basketball Stadium to take part in the Futsal State Championships after being crowned champions at the regional competition. The team played two games in the pool, losing 1-0 to Kotara High School from an unlucky goal, and going down 4-2 to Wallsend Callaghan College in what were very physical games.

The quarter finals saw the team take on Newcastle High School. Unfortunately, Newcastle High School scored some quick goals in the first half. The team fought hard in the second half but lost with a result of 3-0. The girls' effort could not be faulted and gave their all in every game, and should be commended on their achievements.
