CAREERS EXPO

On Tuesday 22 June, 83 students from Years 10 to12 had the opportunity to attend the “Central Coast Careers Pathways Expo in the multi purpose centre at Avondale College, Cooranbong. The aims of this excursion were to enable students to see the variety of pathways available to them in getting to their future careers, to help Year 10 with subject choices for the HSC, to raise awareness of Year 11 & 12’s post-school options and assist in their transition from school to meaningful employment or training and to help Year 10 students to research and prepare for the job they will be applying for their Mock Interviews.

Exhibitors at the expo included employers, industry organisations, professional associations, universities, private providers, TAFE, group training companies and job network members. The expo allowed students the opportunity to talk to personnel about career pathways, courses of study and employment opportunities.

TRY A TRADE

Term 2 this year has seen 15 of our students fortunate enough to have been selected to participate in  a project run by Youth Connections.

The name of the project is “Try a Trade” and this project has been developed in consultation with the Links 2 Learning program to provide additional opportunities for students at our school. Students have been offered the opportunity to participate in a range of hands-on activities that will enable them to gain experience in a variety of trades and industries “vocational testers”.

The vocational testers offered are: hospitality, horticulture, automotive and hair and beauty. Students have had the opportunity to work alongside and learn from mentors who are experienced in these industries in order to maximise their learning opportunities.
