Year 11 Legal Studies

This term in the topic Law in Practice, Legal Studies students have been investigating the legal and non-legal responses to the Luna Park Ghost Train fire. The topic provides the opportunity to investigate contemporary issues that illustrate how the law operates in practice.

Background

In June 1979, seven people, including six children, were killed in a fire on the Ghost Train at Luna Park. The students watched the three-part ABC series Exposed: The Ghost Train Fire and had to identify the non-legal and legal responses and describe the individual events when the law was and was not applied equally and fairly. Students used Padlet to share and collaborate their work to respond to the questions. Using Rule of Law principles and other criteria, students were required to analyse these legal and non-legal responses and identify to what extent they had been effective in achieving justice. Using JAMBOARD, another collaborative tool, students identified legal or non-legal responses, described its role in the Luna Park Ghost Train fire, and evaluate its effectiveness in achieving justice using evidence. Students accessed a variety of techniques using a laptop, iPhone and interactive television to post their findings. This collaborative information will be used so students using the ALARM scaffold can write a response to the question "Assess how the law operates to achieve justice in practice. Make reference to the Luna Park Ghost train fire."

Stage 4  Technology Mandatory

Yrs 7 and 8 have been working on a textiles unit this term. It involved them designing, dying and sewing a bag with decorations based on Aboriginal textile designers work. As you can see, some of the results were very impressive!

Science Week

This week is National Science Week. The Boorowa Central School science department had activities planned for the entire week at school. Just because students are currently learning from home doesn't mean they have to miss out. The attached BINGO cards have heaps of activities for students. Please take photos of all your activities so we can collate and share them for everyone to see. Images can be sent to either Miss Moorby or your classroom teacher.
