Professional Learning Community Foundation  (Preps)

Congratulations to all of our Prep students and their grown ups for completing another week of remote learning. We would like to send a huge thank you to those of you who have been logging on to our WebEx sessions and completing your work every day. You should be so proud of yourself.

We hope that by teaching the daily lessons via WebEx at 9.30, 10.30 and 11.30 every day this makes your day a bit easier, particularly if you are trying to work from home. We are finding the students are well engaged in lessons and are becoming quite independent at logging themselves in and out of the calls. It is our aim to make remote learning as stress free as possible while at the same time continuing the students learning so if you do have any feedback on how you are finding this method of remote learning, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

Just a reminder to please be reading Compass and your emails as this is our best way of communicating with you. Whilst our WebEx lessons occur at the same time daily, sometimes you will be directed to another teacher if your classroom teacher is at school. This information is posted on Compass every day.

Please continue to stay safe and look after yourselves. We have our fingers and toes crossed that it’s not too long before we see all of your smiling faces back at school again.

Professional Learning Community 1  (Grade 1 )

Firstly, it’s been so amazing to see our Grade 1 students transition back into remote learning so seamlessly and this couldn’t be achieved without the efforts of parents and carers in helping to assist your child’s learning on a daily basis. We understand how challenging it is and our appreciation for this honestly can’t be put into words. We also appreciate the positive feedback received from you all over the course of the past few weeks. As previously stated, we endeavour to make the RL learning tasks achievable for all students, although, if your child is finding the tasks too challenging, please let us know and we’ll do our best to help cater for your child’s needs.

In terms of work submission, the PLC 1 staff have chosen to disable submissions through Compass and would like any work to be emailed to your child’s classroom teacher. One for each subject (Reading, Writing and Numeracy) would be terrific each week.

Again, if you require any assistance from PLC 1 Staff, please reach out and we’ll assist you in any way we can. Fingers crossed we’ll be back in the classroom sooner rather than later.

Professional Learning Community 2 (Grade 2 )

Hello everyone in Remote Learning Land. It’s lovely to see your smiling faces with your grins lighting up the screen when PLC2 teachers turn on their WebEx rooms! We can see those who are home and those who are at school. Sometimes we can get a peek into your lounge rooms with snuggly couches, kitchens where a parent is whipping up a delicious treat and outside where playful pets are roaming in search of food.

We can see some amazing work samples being submitted through Compass where some students continue to show their personal best. We aim to leave a comment about your work so please read this in your Compass comments section.

This week we are excited to read ‘How High in the Rainforest’ where we are learning about diverse species in the different layers of the amazing Amazon Rainforest. We can infer so much when we use our prior knowledge and clues from the text. We can describe some of these animals in our writing from the armadillos on the ground to the macaws soaring in the sky. In Numeracy, we are collecting, interpreting and displaying data. Who knew there were so many ways of showing data?

Keep up your awesome effort Grade 2s. We are very proud of you all and miss your bubbly personalities. Stay safe.   PLC2 Teachers

Professional Learning Community 3 (Grades 3)

Well here we are in another round of Remote Learning. I hope you are all going well and have set up some routines. Thank you for being great partners in this learning journey. We have especially enjoyed seeing the students at our WebEx meetings. It is a great opportunity for students to catch up with friends and for the teachers to explain the work to students so they can work more independently. This week we have worked on our quick number facts in numeracy and written a persuasive text about whether indoor or outdoor play is best. We hope you enjoyed reading them with your family. We have begun to do some reading about space in preparation for returning to school as it is our next topic. I think it will generate a lot of excitement when we return. In the meantime, try to do something you love each day and encourage your children to do the same. Fingers crossed for a return to school very soon.

Professional Learning Community 4 (Grades 4)

We find ourselves in remote learning again and we are overwhelmed by the positive efforts of the students across Grade 4. Last week’s writing piece has seen some awesome work produced and a lot of proud students willing to share it with their classmates. We are finding that students are now quite settled in their daily routines and continue to encourage all students to attend our 9:30am conferences in order to get the key messages about tasks for the day.

This week, Reading looks at analysing how authors use symbolism and other strategies to hook their audience. Writing sees students producing a narrative along the theme of concert and Numeracy begins to look at chance. Chance in particular is a great topic to discuss at home. For example- discussing with your child the likelihood of different events occurring- is it impossible? Likely or unlikely? Etc. Conduct chance experiments with lollies- what are the chances of pulling out a blue Smartie when there’s only one in the bowl? 1/14 but red has 5/14- red is more likely to be picked than blue. It is really a week to build and consolidate the language around chance and link it to real life situations.

We thank parents and carers for their support during this difficult period and encourage you to speak with your child’s teacher or get in touch with the school should your child, yourself or your family require any support.

Stay positive!

Professional Learning Community 5 (Grades 5)

We have made it to Week 8! Congratulations and a big thank you to all of the students, parents/carers/guardians and anyone else who have supported and worked so hard to make it this far into the Term!

This week in Reading students continued to listen to, ‘Tomorrow when the War began’, and used inferring skills to answer questions. In Writing students explored different styles of Poems and have the chance to create their favourite on Friday- we are looking forward to reading all the wonderful poets in Grade 5!

In Numeracy students worked through their knowledge of percentages and used that knowledge to find discounted amounts from products.

We want to say how proud we are of all of you for continuing to show up, work hard and push through this challenging time- keep shining brightly superstars, we are nearly there!!!

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grades 6)

It has been another interesting week in lockdown, we are super proud of the kids and how they are all handling the situation. It puts us as teachers in such a positive frame of mind when we are able to see the kids on the WebEx calls with their beaming smiles.

The uptake on the work on Google classroom has been great and we appreciate the assistance from parents and carers in playing their part to ensure the kids are doing the work set for them.

In Reading this week we have been working our way through the text Once and answering questions about it, the kids are absolutely loving it and we are recalling having to refrain ourselves from reading ahead of the kids (maybe the odd sneaky look).

Writing this last two weeks the kids have been putting themselves as a character in a text that they have been reading and creating a new story line. There has been some really creative stories to read and we’ve also had some great chuckles at them too.

Numeracy we have been continuing our understanding of the order of operations (BODMAS - a personal fav of the PLC 6 teachers) this task requires the kids to show their working out. We would love to see images being uploaded to Google classroom of that, so if the kids could borrow your phone to take a few happy snaps that would be appreciated.

We can’t wait to be back on site with everyone and getting stuck into the remaining weeks with the kids.

Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you or your child need extra assistance, clarification or just to have a yarn on WebEx etc.

We hope you’re all staying safe,

PLC 6 😃
