Wear it Purple Day

International Wear it Purple day was held last week on Friday August 27th. This is an internationally recognised day of understanding and celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community. It is a day to share experiences and demonstrate solidarity as members and allies inside and out of this community. 2021 Diversity and Inclusion prefects Sophia Ginis and Carina Griffin ran Girton’s first ever celebration for this day, with a school-wide kahoot to test student’s knowledge about queer history in Australia and worldwide. We are very thankful to all of the students and teachers who came along! Our winners were Jenna Ackland (9 Jones) and Jonte Breen (11 Jenkin).

A zoom photo competition went ahead as well, to see which house tutor could be the most purple! We had lots of fantastic submissions, but finally decided to choose 7 Riley as the winners!!! Loved their creative use of zoom filters, big smiles, and Mr Sharpley’s blanket of course!

Many thanks to Mrs Williams at 65 Wattle and Mr Martin for all their support for us in our efforts to encourage diversity and inclusion within the school, and congratulations to all our winners!
