From the Principal

Dr. Andrew Cousins

Good afternoon Parents and Caregivers,

It has been four days since we started home learning, and we are incredibly proud of all of our students. They have shown us what resilient and responsible learners they are by the smooth transition to home learning. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our staff who have adapted so quickly to the situation and continued to provide our students with a strong education.

As per this morning's announcement from the Queensland Government, Queensland recorded 16 new community cases of COVID-19, which were all directly linked to the Delta outbreak, which started at Indooroopilly State High School. Although this is positive news that we are getting on top of this outbreak, they have not announced if this lockdown will be lifted on Sunday.

With this, the College is preparing that remote learning will continue for next week. For next week we would like for all students doing remote learning to be in their sports uniform. For the students of essential workers and vulnerable families that will be on campus, they are still required to be in their school uniform, including their hat.

Parent Feedback

With the College having to move to remote learning, we value feedback from the parent body on how this process is going. Therefore, could I please ask that you take a few minutes to complete the Parent Online Learning Survey.

Prep to Year 6 Learning Pack

In the event of further lockdown, the Primary teachers have put together new Learning Packs for all Prep to Year 6 students for next week's lessons. The Learning Packs will be distributed by staff at Circular Drive from 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm tomorrow afternoon (Friday 6 August); we request that you stay in your car and follow the usual drop-off and collection procedure. If you cannot collect the pack during this time, they will be placed under the verandah outside of the music classrooms at Circular Drive until Monday morning.

If you cannot collect the Learning Pack as outlined above, please email your child/ren's teacher.

EKKA Public Holiday Cancelled

Yesterday the Queensland Government advised that they had cancelled the Brisbane EKKA public holiday for next Wednesday, 11 August 2021. Although a new date has not been set as it requires legislative change, the Government confirmed the public holiday would be scheduled later in the year to create a long weekend to support local tourism.

Next Wednesday will be a school day as usual, with the students following their Week B timetable.

Assessment Update

Year 12

The College is in daily contact with the Queensland Curriculum & Assessment Authority (QCAA) which is supporting us with adjustments to dates for Internal Assessments (IA) and any Access Arrangements & Reasonable Adjustments processes. Importantly, the QCAA has provided the reassurance that no Clayfield College student will be disadvantaged.

  • Students should continue to maintain a good routine of study each day and stay in contact with their teachers and classes
  • Students should refer to Clayfield Connect, Teams and OneNote for updates and resources
  • Students must continue to prepare for any upcoming assessment items
  • IA3 submission dates for assignment and performance tasks will be extended
  • IA3 examinations will be rescheduled to dates later in the term

Pre-Prep to Year 11

  • Students should continue to maintain a good routine of study each day and stay in contact with their teachers and classes
  • Students should refer to Clayfield Connect, Teams, OneNote, Storypark and Class Dojo for updates and resources
  • Students must continue to prepare for any upcoming assessment items
  • Some assessments might be adjusted to better accommodate home-based learning and allow students to show their learning progress
  • Dates for some assignment-based assessments will be extended as required
  • Some examination dates will be rescheduled

Staffing Update

I am pleased to announce the following changes to the Senior Leadership Team that will occur over the coming month. These changes will support the delivery of a whole College strategy with a central focus on the personalisation of student learning as we continue to create an environment where students are known, valued and understood. These changes will provide clarity about the pastoral, academic and technological leadership for the Secondary School.

I am incredibly grateful to the Middle Leaders and Senior Leadership Team, who have assisted and been active participants in the process to inform these incredibly important decisions about the leadership of the College. As a result, the role of Dean of Academic Administration will cease to exist.

Mrs. Audrey Fellowes (Deputy Principal – Head of Primary)

Audrey will continue to lead our Primary School in addition to leading Wellbeing and Pastoral Programs across the whole College (Pre-Prep to Year 12). Audrey will also have oversight of the entire school risk and compliance.

Mr. Richard Hardy (Director of Information Learning Technology (ILT))

Richard will lead the delivery of the College's information communication and learning technology with a focus on 21st Century Learning as well as integrating services in information management and technology. In addition, Richard will continue to be responsible for the daily staffing operations and timetable changes of the Secondary School.

Director of Teaching and Learning

The College has commenced recruitment for a Director of Teaching and Learning. The Director of Teaching and Learning will be responsible for leading Teaching and Learning across the whole College (Pre-Prep to Year 12). This will include supporting the implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), monitoring student's academic progress, the continuous improvement of curriculum programs in Years 7 to 12 and oversight of the academic staffing and professional learning.

Would you please join me in congratulating Audrey and Richard on their appointment to these roles?

I also extend my best wishes to Ms. Sara Wong as she takes up a promotional role at Ipswich Grammar School. We are incredibly fortunate that Ms. Joanna Belich (2IC English) will step in to support Year 12 English as they prepare for their ATAR examinations and that we will welcome back Dr. Craig Johnston for the remainder of the year to support our Year 11 Modern History students.

I appreciate your support during this challenging time. We have successfully delivered Clayfield Connect to our community in the past, and together, we can do it again.
