Book Week Parade!

Book Week 2021 “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”

It is days like yesterday when children, staff and parents come together to celebrate Book Week and a love of reading that make me proud to be a part of the GSG community. It makes my heart sing.

Yesterday's parade was wonderful, and the students have really worked hard, and creatively, to make their classroom into a special world of their choosing. Junior School classrooms have been transformed into a world from a curriculum topic that each class has been learning about. The wonderful thing here is that they are participating in active learning. Active learning is an approach to instruction that involves actively engaging students with the curriculum material through discussions, problem solving, role plays and other methods. In the case of Book Week, it has been so pleasing to listen to the conversations about their classrooms and to see students working as a team collaboratively.

Here are the classroom creations:

Kindergarten – “Underwater Ocean World”

Pre-Primary – “Mrs Wishy Washy” theme

Year One – “Weather World”

Year Two – “Roald Dahl World”

Year Three – “Where’s Wally World”

Year Four - “The Borrowers World”

Year Five – “Steampunk World”

Year Six – “Wizard of Oz World”

The Library is decorated like a garden for, "If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need." -Marcus Tullius Cicero-

Books provide seeds for your mind. Our Library is a place where we plant seeds of knowledge and creativity.

Book Nooks

Mrs Duff and Ms Ross have been working with students to make book nooks and students are now enjoying going around the Library shelves and seeing what has been made. More will be displayed as they are completed. They are simply gorgeous.

Lastly, thank you to the wonderful Junior School staff  and our Library Officers for your enthusiasm.

Yours in reading,

Ms Elinor Couper | Head of Library Services
