Español a la distancia- Spanish fun during remote learning

Well, what a term it has been! Throughout all of the challenges, the students at St Greg’s Junior school have managed to have a lot of fun during their remote learning term. It has definitely been different. Especially whilst learning Spanish through an Ipad or computer screen.

We have however had a lot of fun. Through song, dance, storytelling and beautiful artworks, we have managed to get our family members involved in something fun during these tricky times for a lot of us.

I am so proud of all of the students who week after week submitted colourful and enthusiastic pieces of work through the screen! MUY BIEN!

I look forward to seeing what Term 4 brings. No doubt it will be great to finish the school year speaking Spanish like champions!

Book Week Wrap Up

Whilst the memory of Book Week 2021 may now be fading, there was so much to celebrate and so many congratulations to be made. Each morning, our students enjoyed a special story via Seesaw, with particular mention for the brady bunch style re-telling of “The Gruffalo” by our Senior Leadership Team and School Captain, Lachlan McInerney’s video of “Too Cute’, by Philip Bunting was outstanding.

Along with stories being shared every day, all of our students had the opportunity to meet author Coral Vass online, in our virtual author sessions, one each for Grades 5 & 6, 3 & 4 and K-2. These sessions were well-attended by our students working from home and we hope that our parents and carers got to enjoy them as well.

Coral’s passion for making connections between images, her ideas and the intended reader was fabulous. It was a wonderful experience for our students to explore in their own planning and writing.

On Thursday 26 August, we launched our Virtual Book Character Parade, using photos submitted by families via Seesaw. Although never the same as the real parade feel, this year’s virtual Book Character Parade was still a magnificent showcase of the ingenuity of our students and their families, especially in creating their own costumes with limited supplies at home. We had some truly magnificent submissions using everyday items and not much else. A huge shout out to all of those families who are thinking outside the square!

Also on 26 August, we released our Book Week Wrap Up video including the announcement of all of our competition winners. Senior Competition winners can be found in the Senior School section of this newsletter, and don’t forget to check out our K-2 Spelling Bee winners in this issue as well.
