THE BIRTH OF MARY

On Wednesday, 8th of September we celebrate the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary the Mother of Jesus, Mary the woman of the Gospels, Mary the first disciple.

A woman who was questioning, contemplative, challenging and active in mission. There’s the young girl who, at the Annunciation, is a little fearful of what this might mean and asks ‘How can this be?’. But it is in her 'Yes' that we witness her responsiveness to God’s call; which then brings new life to the world.

Mary is a woman of action who runs in haste to the hill country to be with Elizabeth. Her words, ‘Do whatever he tells you’ in the wedding at Cana shows not only her love but her way of challenging Jesus to be the person he is meant to be.

In Marist spirituality, ‘Mary’s way lays the foundation of all our actions: listening, patient waiting, nurturing interiority and responsiveness to God’s will’. All to Jesus through Mary, all to Mary for Jesus.

This remarkable woman is a person of hope to many. Please pray to Mary as we continue to love and support our own families and community during these challenging times.
