Year Prep - Two Discovery
The Year Preps, Ones and Twos were so excited to welcome four stick insects to the Discovery Centre. Each week, two students will have the very important job of ensuring the stick insects are sprayed with water. We can't wait to watch them grow and change!
I wonder how big they will grow? - Mia
I wonder if they are boys or girls? - Chloe
I wonder if they sleep? - Alyssa
I wonder how they hang upside down on your hands? - Kaiden
I wonder why they don't tickle you? - Raffaele
Year Prep
This week in Prep we have been learning all about Addition! We have been using objects, counters and dice to add collections together. The students participated in an activity in partners where they had to roll two dice, add the numbers together and colour in the answer on the cupcake. This activity was great for students to practice their counting, number recognition and addition skills.
Year One
This week the Year 1's have been learning all about Addition and Subtraction using the new computers. We have been persevering when learning how to log onto the computers. We have also been learning how to look after the computers, practicing using kind language, taking turns and sharing with our partners when we are using the computers. The Year 1’s participated in a program called Essential Assessment - My Numeracy which is an individualised numeracy program that gives the students an opportunity to work on solving varied mathematics questions aimed at their ability level. The Year 1’s really enjoyed collecting My Numeracy trophies as they worked through their set tasks on Addition and Subtraction this week.

Year Two ~ Math's News
I was so lucky last week to be part of a Year 2 Numeracy session, with Bethany, Erin and the mighty Year 2 students. I am working alongside Bethany at the moment in Numeracy and was privileged to be part of last week's Maths lesson, which involved counting in Auslan. The students were so engaged! I asked Massie what was going on. This was his response....
"We are playing Pacman. Erin tells us a number in Auslan and we have to guess what the number is. If we are right, we can take one step towards another person. If you get close enough you can tag them and they are out of the game. I like Pacman because it’s a lot of fun in Maths and you can tag people if you know the answer, but if you get the answer wrong then you are out. I like Auslan because I don't have to talk or use lots of my voice. I just have to use my hands to make the signs". Massie
Year Three / Four
In year 3/4 have really enjoyed working on finding out about 2D shapes - names, their properties and how we can join shapes to make a new shape or picture.
Year Four / Five
Federal Election Chocolate Crackles and Honey Joys
Honey Joys
Some of the Year 4/5 students today made honey joys and chocolate crackles and we ate the leftovers. We made these delicious treats because the school is having a Polling Booth for the Federal Election.
In the Honey Joys there was honey, butter, sugar and cornflakes. We stirred all the ingredients together and then spooned the mixture into the patty paper on a tray. Once we had done this, it was time to cook them. We heated the oven to 150 degrees celsius and cooked them for 10 mins. We made about 48 Honey Joys. By Izaac, Ishe, and Glendon.
Chocolate Crackles
So today Connor and I made chocolate crackles. We used rice bubbles, cocoa, copha, icing sugar and coconut. We started by adding rice bubbles to the bowl, then added icing sugar and coconut and stirred it all together, while we were waiting for the copha to melt. When the copha was melted we mixed it in with the dry ingredients.
Then we filled up the patty papers with the chocolate crackle mix. We then put it in the fridge for an hour. By Alex and Connor.
Year 5/6
Well Being Inquiry - Healthy Me, Healthy Be
In Year 5/6, we made Gratitude Jars and Journals where we write things we are thankful for and what we are happy about.
We bought jars and journals from home and decorated them with coloured paper, and some of us added stickers. We got this idea from a book on Epic called “Look on the Bright Side: Being Positive” and the book had ideas and ways where we can stay positive and how to keep ourselves from feeling negative.

Meditation- Healthy Me, Healthy Be
At the start it was pretty easy with the star, my star was white. When the star went through my body I felt relaxed. Then I thought about the people that make my heart bigger, I thought of my mum, dad, sisters and friends. After that I hung up everything that worried me on the worrying tree like going to high school next year and making friends. Then I went into my garden, it was beautiful. In the end I really liked it, it relaxed my body and relieved my stress. I think meditation can be really helpful for a lot of people with stress or anxiety. John
The guided meditation was calming, my stars colour was green. I thought about my family and friends. I had a great experience with the meditation on the tree, there was school work, basketball and NFL. I think that meditation was the right thing to do for me and all the stress. Joshua
Numeracy - Angles
I learnt all the different angles like acute that is less than 90 degrees, obtuse that is greater than 90 degrees and right angle that is 90 degrees and how to use the protractor. Liam
It was really fun learning about all the angles and how to measure them and how to use a protractor. John
It was fun learning about measurement, I learnt all types of angles like acute, right, obtuse and reflex angles. Joshua
