Student Leadership

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”

John Quincy Adams

The Student Leadership Team has been super busy this term, raising awareness for various charitable organisations, commemorating important historical events and developing initiatives to deliver house spirit.

Here’s what we’ve been working on:

The Ponytail Project

Did you know that 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime?

Over the past two weeks, the Student Leadership Team has encouraged the Brigidine Community to take part in Cancer Council’s Ponytail Project campaign to raise vital funds that will support people impacted by cancer. As a team, our aim was to empower students to do their part and help create change.

On Tuesday 31st May, 24 students and 1 teacher selflessly 'rocked the chop' by cutting 20cm of their hair! Every Ponytail chopped was donated to charity to create wigs for those impacted by cancer.

Amazingly, the Brigidine Community raised an impressive $27,000 in donations. Money that we know will make a big difference to the lives of many impacted by cancer. A big thank you to all participants and donors and especially a big thank you to a local hairdressing salon The Salon by Ash Croker who graciously gave up their time to help us with this project.

National Sorry Day 2022

26th May marked National Sorry Day. This annual celebration is commemorated across the country in many different ways, however sharing the same goal to acknowledge and remember the circumstances and effects of the Stolen Generation. This is an important day for all Australians, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, particularly as a means to foster recognition of past mistreatment and future opportunities for reconciliation.

This year, our Arts & Culture Captain, Abigail Connolly led our Student Representative Council and Year 12 House Captains in creating a commemorative mural in the Canteen Quad. The mural featured banners and highlighted the important speech delivered by Kevin Rudd. The students were split into groups and were tasked with piecing the speech together. The purpose of this event was to not only raise awareness, but to also involve leaders within our Brigidine Community to raise awareness and encourage discussion around the significance of such an important speech in history.

When you next walk past the Canteen Quad, keep an eye out for the mural, take a moment to read and absorb the Sorry speech delivered by Kevin Rudd and reflect on the impact that you can make toward national reconciliation.

House Spirit Cup

To kickstart the House Spirit Cup this term, the Student Leadership Team, led by Sports Captain Joiful Fotu-Moala has launched its ‘Friday Fundays’, House v House volleyball competition. These games are a great way to connect to the community and have fun with friends. Each game will occur during lunchtime on Friday at Cullen Hall, with each participant earning house points that will contribute to the end of year House Cup. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm and energy!

Please be mindful of which weeks your year group is competing.

Let the best house win!

Vinnies Winter Appeal

The Vinnies Winter Appeal has officially begun. This year, we have encouraged the Brigidine Community to bring in ‘'Winter Woollies' such as scarves, socks and beanies. On top of that, Years 7-9 will be allocated non-perishable food items and Years 10-12 will bring in toiletry products. With the materials collected, Brigidine will also be donating personal hygiene packs to the Bayside Women’s Shelter.

Your support in ensuring that these items are brought in will provide support to those in need, particularly during the Winter period where warmth and shelter is so vital to many living in poverty.

Keep an eye out for more information regarding all Student Leadership initiatives, there are plenty more to come and we’d love to have you involved.
