School Council

2022 School Council

On 5th April and 10th May 2022, the MPS School Council has held its AGM, April and May meetings where we thanked our outgoing members, welcomed new members, elected position holders for 2022 and established our sub-committees.

Thank you to our outgoing members Tracy Mullenger and Katelin Baker for their contributions and commitment to School Council.

MPS school council is made up of 15 members and School council members commit to a two-year term, with about half of the membership being open for nomination each year. It is a Department of Education requirement that the majority of members are parents, to allow community views to be represented.

We welcome new parent members Kelly Hamilton and Ebonie Rio and Department members Alec Baroni and Helen Edwards.

Existing members who were re-nominated are Kirstin Murrihy and Clare Arthurs.

Members and Positions

The MPS school council parent members for 2022 are Clare Arthurs (President), Kirstin Murrihy (Vice-President), Diane Collis (Treasurer), Nathan Ray, Chris Barre, Ebonie Rio and Kelly Hamilton.

The department members for 2022 are Christine Pillot (acting in Neil Butler’s place), Melissa Den Elzen, Alec Baroni and Helen Edwards.

It is pleasing to see a mix of members who have been at the school for several years as well as some members who are new to the school.

Sub-Committees

A particular focus during April and May meetings has been on the establishment of sub-committees and their scope.

We are looking for school community members who would like to support its sub-committees. Below are an outline of the sub-committees and their contact details.

At MPS, the Buildings and Grounds sub-committee:

  • provide for the maintenance of existing facilities including all buildings and grounds,
  • organise working bees and other actions to maintain or improve the appearance of the school,
  • develop and consider various capital works plans and proposals, and
  • provide advice to School Council on external groups who may be using the school's facilities.

If you have an interest and or skill in the above scope of work, it would be great to have you join our team.  If you are interested, please contact committee convenor, Chris Barre on 0481 393 030.

The Finance sub-committee

Do you love numbers and want to help the Marlborough school community without committing to a school council position? Then the Finance sub-committee is for you.  We are calling for one parent volunteer.

The sub-committee will meet twice a term on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday (via video conference at the moment) at a time that suits all committee members - this may be during school hours or after hours.

The Finance Sub-Committee consists of the Principal, Business Manager, School Council Treasurer, School Council member Nathan Ray plus one other parent volunteer.  Could it be you?

No particular qualifications are necessary.

What to expect?

The Business Manager takes the sub-committee through a standard suite of end of month finance reports and the sub-committee's role is to review the reports and ask any questions ahead of the reports being presented to the school council.  You don't need to attend council.  This is an important role that provides scrutiny and oversight of Marlborough's finances and will give school council confidence that the reports have been looked at.

Questions?  Please get in contact with Diane 0459098699 if you'd like to know more.

The Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) program is an important service for MPS, which is managed by School Council. The OSHC sub-committee is focused on ensuring that the service provided is a high quality one that meets the needs of MPS families. We meet twice a term on Wednesday mornings at 8am at school (or virtually if required)

If you would like to contribute to this sub-committee, please contact Clare Arthurs on 0435 898 644 or clare_ponton@hotmail.com
