Week 6 Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

At last Friday's Whole School Prayer and Assembly our Year 5/6VC  students led the school community in prayer with the focus on National Reconciliation Week. May 27th - June 3rd is put aside each year nationally as a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for this year is ‘Be Brave. Make Change’. At St Fidelis our students will work together to explore this theme to deepen their understanding of Our First Nations peoples.

Prayer for Reconciliation Week

Lord, open our hearts so that we may hear

 the message you teach

of a world in which the wrongs

 of the past are recognised-

a world in which reconciled people walk

 and talk together sharing stories;

a world in which all burn with the desire

to have your peace and justice reign.

We ask this in Jesus’

Amen

Numeracy Parent and Child Workshops

“When Catholic schools and families work together for the formation of all children, the school community is strengthened, and the whole of society benefits as a sense of ownership and belonging to community grows for children and young people, and for their families (Bryk et al. 2010).Horizons of Hope

Education Framework for the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Numeracy Workshops last week. We had an overwhelming response and Mrs Monaghan will ensure that we continue these workshops during the year.

Welcome to Shirley Robertson Kinder children

Last Monday, we welcomed Shirley Robertson Four Year old Kindergarten children and their  teachers to St Fidelis. Our current Foundation students were delighted to play the role of the teachers as they taught the kinder kids the skills required to code and program the Beebots. The kinder kids were then able to participate in a creative STEM task and created their own robot to take back to their kinder.  Well Done FLW you were wonderful teachers

School Closure Day - TuesdayJune 14th

This term our school closure day will be on Tuesday June 14th. Our focus is on Reviewing our School Vision and mission statement.  We would like as many parents to complete the survey. Feedback from members of our community will help us on the journey to identify the core beliefs, values and purpose that will redefine our Vision, Values and Mission.

St Vincent's Winter Appeal

At last week's assembly BROTHER DOUG - ST VINCENT DE PAUL REPRESENTATIVE, spoke to all the students about the works that St Vincents do in our community. He was very grateful for the  support that is always offered by the community of St Fidelis. In particular Brother Doug asked for shampoo. conditioner, soap,  babies nappies and milk formula as well as the usual nonperishable food and blankets.  We are holding the appeal until the end of the term so please if you are able to, send your donations to school with your child and he/she can place them in the class basket. Thank you again for your generosity.

Experience Music

Our Music teachers Caleb and Michelle from Experience Music, performed for our school community at last week's assembly and we also had the opportunity to listen to our St Fidelis Choir for the first time. If you are interested in having your child learn an instrument, please read the flyer in this week's newsletter and contact Anne Marie for further information.

Next term we'll  have another opportunity to listen to our choir and some of our students who are learning the instruments will also perform for the school community.

Mick Jennings

Mr Jennings  will be absent from school for the next three weeks. We have employed replacement teachers for Physical Education during his time of absence.

Have a lovely week,

Manuela
