Anchorage House News

The boys of Anchorage are reflecting on the term and a half spent together this year. At this stage, everyone is familiar with the expectations and routines of the house. They are helping each other out with learning how to tie a tie, homework, organising and tidying rooms as well having fun playing ping pong, spike ball or laughing together over funny YouTube videos.

Now we are talking about how we want this house to feel like to live in together. The boys want Anchorage to be a place where they treat each other with respect and have a sense of belonging. We are asking what memories do you want people to be able recall from their time in Anchorage? What will be your legacy for your boarding time? How do your actions make a person feel? What can we do to make this better?

There is recognition that this is a time of new experiences, learning how to navigate school and boarding life. There is a lot going on and a lot to deal with! From time to time, mistakes will be made. Mistakes are dealt with using a growth mindset with these steps:

  • I can take responsibility for what I did
  • Apologise genuinely
  • Fix it, make amends
  • Learn from it
  • Do better next time in the same situation

This week, boys are nominating a fellow boarder who makes Anchorage a great place to be in. There are prizes for examples of generosity, including others, caring, respect, being welcoming, trustworthy, courtesy and consideration. There is also a prize for the most thoughtfully written nomination. I have been very encouraged by the nominations put forward so far.

Reconciliation Week

The boys had a great time working on an art piece for Reconciliation Week.  This is something they can be very proud of as it turned out beautifully.

Birthdays

A very happy birthday to Tom Hams who turned 14 on 28 May.
