Message from the Principal

Achieving Excellence Together

Dear Families,

The new newsletter format has been well received by the community this term. I can proudly share that the number of readers has tripled since week 1 with almost 500 readers for our last addition. This week we are commencing with our student written stories and notices. Students from grade 5/6 will continue to communicate the collective student voice through our newsletter each week through their involvement in the APS News Young Leaders Team. I encourage you to support our budding journalists by reading their weekly update.

This week, we had the opportunity to formally farewell our former Principal, Mrs. Vermezovic. Thank you to all of those in the community who were able to join us at the assembly on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Vermezovic had a profound impact on Albanvale Primary School and all of those within it.

School Council

We highly value the role that our School Council plays in setting the key direction of our school. Parents on School Council provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that help shape the direction of the school. Recently we conducted our Annual General Meeting which included the re-nomination of our School Council President, Jason Bourke and the election of our newly appointed Treasurer, Olivia Bogojov. I would like to congratulate both Jason and Olivia for their appointment to their respective roles. We currently have an opening for a parent member of the school council and would like to invite self-nominations. Our school council meets twice per term from 6pm and is available onsite or online. We are looking for a parent member who is passionate about helping our school continue to strive for excellence. If this is something, you might be interested in I encourage you to reach out to our front office and learn more.

Curriculum Day

On Friday the 10th of June, our school will be hosting our term 2 curriculum day. We have organised to continue working toward our Strategic Plan Goal of improving student outcomes in Writing. Carmel Small, a Writing curriculum expert will be hosting our professional learning in this area as we seek to embed the latest evidence-based practices. Despite having started our work in Writing earlier this year, the impact of learning has already begun to translate to our students and is evident through there work samples. We are looking forward to sharing their progress with you through their reports later this term.

Reading

Reading plays a critical role in students’ literacy development and future educational success. Every student at our school has a take-home reading folder and is expected to change over their books each day as part of their morning routine. In some year levels, students are asked to sign students’ diaries each night as record to show students engaged in reading at home. We appreciate the support of families in helping our students develop positive reading habits.

Uniform

A reminder that classroom teachers will be observing that students are wearing the correct school uniform every day. School uniform promotes a sense of identity, pride, cohesion as well as enhancing the profile and identity of the school and its students within the wider community.

Please note that hooded jumpers are not permitted as part of the school uniform policy.

Prep Enrolment 2023

Enrolments for 2023 are now open for all year levels. Families for students wishing to commence Prep next are encouraged to submit their pre-enrolment form as soon as possible. This will allow us to confirm student places as soon as possible next term. We have begun preparing for our Prep Transition program expected to commence in October this year. Only student with confirmed placement will be included in the Transition Program. If you or someone you know are interested in joining us than please get in touch by:
