Technology in our Lives

In the classroom

Izzy Ou and Vicky Tian, Year 8

How do we use technology at Kilvington Grammar School? Well, we use technology in many different ways.

In the classroom, we have interactive whiteboards and also laptops. Everyone buys their own laptop to learn and complete homework for all classes. When the teacher begins the class, they turn on the interactive screen to show students what to do. Some students might also bring iPads to classes as well.

We have a small square-shaped device on the wall which tells us if we need to open the window due to poor air circulation. There is a little light and if it turns orange, we need to open the window; if it turns green, then the air we breathe in is fine.

A useful tool during lockdowns

Eva Zhou, Year 8

During the lockdowns, we felt exhausted from screen usage, but during the breaks we opened YouTube and watched our favourite channels to relax. This relaxation helped us to concentrate more in class.

Onkaar Lamba, Year 8

Thanks to technology, we managed to remain connected with our teachers and friends. It gave us a real sense of community while we were all isolated.

Linda Zhu, Year 8

As we can also access our textbooks online through the platform ReadCloud, we didn’t have to worry about leaving textbooks in our lockers during lockdown. It's so much easier not to have to carry books around the School. Everything is online!

Different platforms to help us learn better

Angelina Zhang, Year 8

Nowadays, technology is a main part of how young Australians learn, communicate and connect with others, whether at school, work or even at home.

At Kilvington, using technology is a big part of our education. We mostly use computers for our learning. For example, we use our school-developed website called KCEE to find our classes and learning resources.

During home-learning, our devices were what kept us connected and how we got from class to class. We used software called Microsoft Teams to do our normal classes, and even co-curricular activities such as orchestra and even choir!

After School, we could contact our teachers through email to ask questions. We also use online websites to help us with our learning. For example, we use Grok for Digital Technologies, Stile for Science and Education Perfect for all subjects.

Now, I’m curious to know, how do you use technology in your daily school life?

Staying connected with the rest of the world!

Linda Zhu, Year 8

We have enjoyed using Microsoft Teams to have virtual forums with our partner schools and discuss global issues such as the environment, sport and the Olympic games.

We look forward to many other online forums in the future, thanks to technology!

How young Australians use the internet and social media

Anthea Diplaris and Ruby Wilson, Year 10

Technology is a very useful part of young Australians lives.  けいたいでんわはべんりです。We use social media to stay connected. よく、ティクトクとスナプチャトとインスタグラムをつかいます。友だちは話を話します。
