Christmas, a tradition that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, is an event that is celebrated worldwide. From the tradition of a roast dinner to setting up a Christmas tree, it is a special day for many. And often unbeknownst to us, Christmas is not just baubles and tinsel, and instead involves an array of unique and special customs, different in all countries. Within the many traditions that make up Christmas, some interesting customs, specific to countries, here are some examples.

In the country of Sri Lanka, there are often firecrackers, illuminating at dawn with their colourful sparks of light and colour.

In Argentina, people use the white colour and texture of cotton balls to indicate and symbolise snow on their Christmas trees.

In Japan, people preorder KFC as a Christmas dinner.

In Mexico, they have a tradition of carving giant radishes into extravagant sculptures on the 23rd of December.

In Ukraine, they believe that spider webs and spiders bring good luck and they use fake spiders and webs instead of fairy lights for decoration.

We wish everyone, however you celebrate, a very Merry Christmas 2022!
