Year 3/4 Bulletin

Welcome to our first bulletin of 2023!

We are so very excited to share our learning with you all. Throughout the year we will take this opportunity to share with you the learning we participate in. Each bulletin will sample one learning experience. This week our focus is on the school values and how we have enacted this on a daily basis in the classroom and with our specialist teachers, and more specifically in the Garden sessions with Abby.

The School Values

RESPECT   RESPONSIBILITY  RESILIENCE  RELATIONSHIPS  REFLECTION

Throughout the beginning part of this term, we have unpacked what each of the values looks like and sounds like in the classroom and within each of the specialist sessions and our Gardening and Kitchen Garden sessions. We are so fortunate to live and learn in such a thriving community.

Our students have discussed how we can better connect with each other, and our wider community. Whilst planning how we were going to present at the assembly, the students decided to come together and present mini plays on what each value looks like to them. We are so appreciative of all the parents who came along in the audience. Upon reflection, we will continue to work with each other in enacting the school values.

Gardening

Learning Intention: To explore and follow a procedural text.

Each class has the responsibility of taking care of our ever growing, ever thriving garden. Each class is split into groups during their session where Abby provides information about local and introduced, engaging in conversations promoting healthy eating and lifestyle choices.

Prompts/questions/responses:

  • How do we appropriately water the garden?
  • How do we know which seeds to plant now in conjunction with the current season?
  • Why do we need to encourage particular insect life into our Kitchen Garden?
  • How can we save money (as a family) in produce shops each week?

Examples of students work:

What can you do now?

To continue the learning at home explore within your own gardens the insects and plant species that are visible. Discuss with your child the importance of water usage, planting new seedlings and the potential benefits of home grown fruits and vegetables.

Things to remember:

  1. Compass Class Timetables - Please check on a regular basis, or print it out and have it in a central location, in order to make sure all parents are aware of our daily activities, especially when we have PE, SPORT, Gardening and Kitchen Garden, where your child may require to wear appropriate clothing, shoes etc.
  2. Library - All classes have Library on Mondays. Steph has begun to keep a record of students who consistently forget to bring their red bags so we ask that you remind your child to pack their library bag the night before.
  3. Homework -  For many students, this year is their first time experiencing what it is like to receive and complete homework in a set time.  We encourage all students to complete their tasks in their homework books and return them by the due date each week. The homework coincides with tasks completed in class so as to consolidate the learning and are aligned with curriculum standards.
