The College academic year is quickly coming to its end. The Year 10 students have now finished their examinations and final assessments for the year. Students may collect their exam papers and 2022 Kooringals next Wednesday from the RNDM Foyer. While Year 11 reports will be available electronically today, the reports for students in Years 7 to 10 will be available in Week 10 after all students have finished their academic program for the year.
On Monday, the College held a combined Dance show, Illuminate - the Creative Spirit, together with students from Whitford Catholic Primary School and Our Lady of Grace Primary School. The evening was a great display of talent across many different dance genres from each of the three schools involved. My thanks to Miss Christine Polglaze and Mrs Shannon Sodano who worked with teachers from Whitfords Catholic and Our Lady of Grace to prepare the students for the show and to Mr Matthew Maddison and Mrs Luana Abbott for ensuring the event ran to order.
This week, the Mary MacKillop Centre (MMC) had a farewell afternoon tea for our Year 12 graduates from the centre. It was fantastic to see so many parents/caregivers of students across all years attend the occasion to wish our Year 12 students well as they leave the College. Mrs Kate Day, Head of Inclusion, also took the opportunity to congratulate the 2023 Year 12 students who have been selected as Year 12 MMC Mentors. Congratulations to Shaun Ferris (Trinity), Dylan Maier (Barlow), Abigail Norton (Carden), Matilda Norton (Trinity) and Tyler Sear (Carden) who were presented with their badges and we wish them well in this important role through 2023.
Today also marks International People with Disability Day. Kate and her team have been active in this area all week, reminding us that we need to look beyond disability to become a more inclusive school. Kate shared this short clip with staff featuring Dylan Alcott AO, explaining what the day is all about.
The College was privileged to welcome members of the Grandparents Rearing Grandchildren group and their grandchildren yesterday afternoon for a BBQ. There was face painting and games and everyone enjoyed listening to fabulous renditions of all their favourite Christmas carols, performed by our very own Junior Concert Band. I loved meeting the grandparents and hearing a little of their stories and seeing the children having fun on the Boarder’s Lawn. It was also so pleasing to see so many of our students and staff, led by Mrs Rossana Hywood and Mr Julien Hunt, making a difference to the lives of others.
The Parent Advisory Council welcomed new members to the Council this week. Congratulations to Mrs Lisa Fogliani, Mr Matt Tindall and Mr Mark Ambrose who all have been elected to a position on the Advisory Council for two years. Congratulations also to Mr Trevor Sheppard who has been elected as Chair of the Council and to Mrs Tricia Sumich who has been elected as Deputy Chair.
I also encourage parents to attend our final P&F Meeting for the year at 7:00pm on Monday 5 December. P&F Executive members will be elected at this meeting.
Next week, Years 7-9 will be in their final week of school for the year. I wish them well for a successful finish to what has been a fantastic year.
God Bless.
