A Message from Hannah & Keir

We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present and emerging.

Art Attak

If you ask us, the internet has never been as good as Art Attak 2022, and we have never been happier to see crowds of people staring at their phone screens. People were losing themselves with the wild animals of Wonkipedia in Yakai Baring, grooving to the amazing student performances of the open mic stage at STELA and plenty of handcrafted goods were purchased from Itsy!

We know our students are an incredibly talented group of humans and celebrating their learning, creativity and individuality is always a pleasure. Seeing our families reconnect with the school and the community is a tremendous bucket-filler. To have this occur on school grounds, with a backdrop of student performances and reflections on their learning sets our buckets to overflow.

Thank you to those families who came along to the night - our students really appreciate an audience! Thank you to the many volunteers who helped set up and/or pack up as well as those who worked at the bar, barbecue, pizza oven or in any other capacity. Thank you to Denis Phelan, for facilitating our student performances with enthusiasm and kindness. Finally, we want to extend a big thank you to Andrew and Steve, who have gone above and beyond all term long, to make Art Attak the special event it was; your passion, creativity and connection to community was celebrated by all who attended!

Step Up - Hello New Teams!

Last week was our final Step Up session, where our students said Hello New Teams! and got to know the teachers who will be in their cohort next year. As the intention of these sessions was to support our students in preparing for the changes a new year will bring, the groupings students were in were not their 2023 classes and it is very unlikely that the teacher they had is their teacher next year.

After four practice sessions, everyone is feeling much more confident about their transition. We know the skills and strengths we hold to cope with change, we have reflected on changes we have experienced ourselves, we have had a taste of new classmates and teachers and now we are ready for our transition sessions next week, which will be in our 2023 classes, with our 2023 teacher.

Foundie Transition

Last week also saw the final transition session for our incoming Foundation students, who seem to be growing more and more each week - and not just in confidence! Our 2023 Foundies have enjoyed Guided Play, gardening, PMP and story time; they have met some of our Specialist Teachers and have traversed the school grounds with their little legs. We have been so excited to welcome new students and families into our community, some of whom we saw at Art Attak and can’t wait to start the new year with these excellent humans.

Grade 6 Final Assembly

Our students’ final day of the 2022 school year is on Monday 19th December. Previous experience has shown us that our student attendance numbers on that day will be quite low, as many families will make the choice to start their holidays a little earlier.

On the final day of school each year, we typically finish the day with an afternoon assembly where we say goodbye to departing students and families and have a special ceremony for our Grade 6 Graduates. This year, we will be holding our final assembly on Thursday 15th December at 3pm to make sure we have lots of friendly faces to farewell our graduates.

Ride & Stride Survey

Over the last few terms, Brunswick North West Primary have been involved in Merri-bek City Council’s Ride & Stride program. We have participated in a number of initiatives to encourage more walking and riding to school, and would like to understand how families have found the programs and how they may have influenced your travel decisions. We’d appreciate your feedback on the program and suggestions for how we can continue to increase safe, sustainable travel to school within this 5 minute survey
