Teaching and Learning

Swimming and Water Safety Program

This year's program begins on Tuesday February 21st and will run each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon for three weeks (dates on on the Important Dates Page at the beginning of this newsletter).

All students in Years Prep to Six participate and will be placed into groups based upon their confidence and ability. We will travel by Organ's coach to and from the venue (which is the indoor facility in Eaglehawk, known as the Peter Krenz Leisure Centre). Students will be supervised by the teachers from our school with the lessons themselves being taken by qualified swimming instructors.

A permission slip with all of the required information has been published on uEducateUs and we ask parents to log in, read through the information and provide permission for their child/ren to attend. We are legally not able to take any child on a camp or excursion without parental permission.

There is no cost for this program as it will be funded by the school. Another added bonus is that we have been lucky enough to secure a swimming gift bag for each of our students which contains goggles, a towel and a mesh carry bag. We will send these home with students in the days before the program (it is strongly recommended that the towel be washed before its first use, as they tend to not be as absorbent straight from the factory and you never know if there are any dyes or chemicals on them that will need washing away).

Year 4-6 Swimming Sports

Students in Years 4,5&6 are invited to attend the Campaspe Small Schools Cluster Swimming Sports. This year the event will be held at the Elmore Pool (due to damage from flooding at the Rochester Pool). The sports will see students from Elmore Primary, OLSH-Elmore, Colbinabbin Primary, Nanneella Estate Primary and Goornong compete in a range of swimming events. Children's range of swimming abilities are kept in mind with the day offering length, width and novelty events so that all students can compete and enjoy the day.

This year's event is scheduled for Friday February 24th. We will organise transport to and from the event for our students. Further details and permission slips will be released closer to the day.

Year P-2 News from Mrs Lightburn

Welcome back to my wonderful Prep-G2 students. Its was great to see all the happy smiling faces especially our new preps Laxford and Stevie and from NT Marley and Cooper. They have all settled in and are mixing well with the other children. They have all started to take home a reader each night, It is important to sign this each night and bring it back to school the next day.

Year 3-6 News from Mr Collins

We're finally back! I'm so excited to have my kids from last year return to the classroom and would like to extend a warm welcome to both Skylar and Mia who are now senior students at Raywood Primary. I've been looking forward to them joining the 'Big Kids'  for a while now. This year sees our classroom number fall to only 6 students in the room. Whilst this number is lower than the school would like it to be, productivity and individualisation of teaching and learning will be at an all time high. As always, the kids will be expected to complete their spelling and reading each night so your assistance with this process would be fantastic. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to make contact.

Fitness

Each morning our students begin their school day with a fitness session. These sessions are designed to get the students moving, heart pumping with a good blood flow to the brain and other important organs so that they are at their best to begin the school day. These sessions are in addition to our other sports programs such as swimming, Sporting Schools (including Kelly Sports), cross-country and athletics. Being so fortunate as to have expansive grounds with an oval, bitumen court and a stadium (stacked with an extensive array of equipment) we can hold these and other sporting sessions - rain, hail or shine!

New Books

We have once again been spoilt by Sarah Mayor-Cox and Mrs G, with another haul of quality books to further enhance our library. We are so very grateful for this kind donation and our library is now filling with new books for our students and staff to read and enjoy!
